Now the home owner would get arrested for allowing children to "endanger" themselves. I can remember riding my "Hulk" big wheel down this steep driveway into the street and yanking the handbrake and sliding to the other side of the street.

I miss my big wheel.

Hell yeah, locking up the front end and sliding it so much the front wheel ends up looking like two disks next to each other instead of a wheel.

I remember the "Green Machine," which you steered with the two handles that pivoted the rear wheels. The ads for the thing demostrated its ability to slide. That thing was cool. I remember packs of us on our big wheels and the like pushing them to the top of the hill next to my apartment building to coast all the way down and slide and the bottom.

Helmet? That was for the retraded kid. Which you could still refer to as retarded without being called insensitive.

Edit:
They still make em!

Sweet pic! Memories...I had a pink powder puff big wheel that I rode till the wheels fell off. Well at least until I was 21.

The new Green Machine is dialed. Rubber tire up front, all metal controls with a rear brake!
Should last a little longer than mine did way back when.

Ive decided it would be a great gift for my daughter for Xmas.
Now all we need are some Kawi stickers for it!

Yes, i will be giving it a spin down the driveway...
That seat looks adjustable-I hope it goes clear out to drunk dad size!

Yeah, the front wheel would get destroyed pretty quick. I rode mine until I couldn't turn the front wheel anymore. The green machines were for the rich kids. We got mine at TG&Y. That may have been an Oklahoma only kind of store back then. Or Otasco.

I have been kicking around some fabrication plans for "big kid" big wheels. Rubber front tire of course.

Almost think we should have a gravity games type of big-wheel race on the downhill part out at High Plains.

Anybody used to have one of these? I remember borrowing that from my friends all the time! Low center of gravity meant you could take turns like a mother!

Chris, we used to use those at the skate rink all the time. I worked on the floor and ran the races and we had a class just for those. Those things would haul ass!

Hell yeah, i had one of those! then my parents took it away after i crash landed for the 50th time. Or it could've been the fact that i had to have my knee cut open so they could get the gravel out from under my knee cap. mmmm. fun times

Yeah, the only problem with those things was that it was damn near impossible to drag knee without dragging face as well...

That was it, I was trying to place the propulsion manner. You swung back and forth on that. I remeber my friend had one has well, but the neighborhood was too hilly.

My cousin had a Kick N' go. It was a little bit dangerous on the back roads in the Adirondacks. I have chipped tailbone thanks to that thing.

Growing up on Green Mountain our streets were just awesome for rail-sleds and scooters and wagons.

I couldn't tell you how many races/battles we had down our street.

We used to run it down a 1/8th mile hill and jump it into a large sand pit. I actually landed on the scooter because my shoelace caught the kick bar in the back.

Except maybe somewhere like Red Rocks for the course.

Man, I'd kill to still have the first custom stingray chopper I built.
Double front forks, mini front wheel, flat slick rear tire,
sissy-bar, tiger skin banana seat, whip antenna flag, and 2-tone metalic candy apple red and silver paint job.
It was the shit.

Ah, check it again, the Krates were "5 Speed" stick shifts:

Green: Cotton Picker
Yellow: Lemon Peeler
Red: Apple Krate
Orange: Orange Krate

LOL, the "drum brake infront" worked about as good as the drum brakes on motorcycles of the late 60's, YIKES:shocked:

Yeah, the pic was of the 5-speed (Krate) with all the bells and whistles. It was the easiest pic to find.
But the original cross bar mounted shifter that would neuter you if you did a header into a parked car were internal hub 3-speeds.
But there aren't too many pics of them in pristine shape.

Good Sir, I stand corrected, (or is that rejected:bow:), Man I'm old and I don't think I've ever seen the "3 speed" version".. How old am I, I had a 2 speed Schwinn American, kick the pedals back like doing a coster brake stoppie and you got 2nd. gear (internal hub, coster brake, BIG tires!). Sure glad to see you guys out a PPIR again, too bad it was the last race of the 08 season, RATS!

Take care, Ride Safe but have FUN!
