View Full Version : What color wheels?

I'm going to powdercoat the wheels on my RC here in the next couple of weeks and was thinking about what color I should coat them with.

My first thought was Red would look pretty cool.

I was also thinking a Gunmetal Gray or flattish black.

Gold might look cool too.

Any other ideas?

You plan to always keep the original paint scheme or maybe custom paint it someday?

I'm restoring my old race bike for street use. The wheels were old, beat up wheels that had seen a lot of use and a couple of wrecks.

They were chem stripped, media blasted and then the outer rim was polished. The spokes were done in a silver to match the future silver graphics of the bike. The polished rims are powder coat clear.

Maybe your wheels would look good with wheels that have a combo of colors that match your bike? Red spokes with polished rims?

I don't really have advice on what color to powder coat them, but I would vote out the black.

Any other color than black on the weels really makes the wheels themself stand out. Gives the wheels some depth and character. I just think that is all lost with black wheels.

EDIT: I take back my original statement. Maybe a light grey center with polished lips would look cool on that bike.

2-tone would look sweet.
Or match all three main colors in the bike and go 3-tone.
Black Hub, Red Spokes, Silver Rim.

Here's a quick and dirty mockup:

Anybody have the photshop skills to put red and silver wheels on that picture? :D

I think those are the two colors I'm leaning towards, but I haven't blown off a two-tone theme either...

I think a silver like the bodywork would look nice.

I say silver. You should only do white if you have the '04. IMO anyways.

Yeah, it's a similar process to painting two-tone.

Red rim with black spokes was my favorite. Then the all red or silver.

I had a set of Carrozzeria's powdercoated for a customer in Titanuim w/silver metal flake.......they'd look pretty hot on a RC:
