:) It seems funny to us but calling someone a shoe (inta kundara) is quite an insult in Arabic. Saddam had a portrait of Bush Sr. tiled into the floor of one of the Iraqi government buildings (as I recall) so that people would have to walk on top of it when they entered. Respect and shame play a huge role in Arabic culture (particularly with the men) and showing the sole of your shoe is like saying that someone is beneath you. It is a very humiliating insult.
