Coming from the lower hills off Neva Rd. and Foothills Pkwy. It's ranch land area. Also sounds like close to the IBM campus. They're having to evacuate people and are concerned about horses, etc.

Woah...just watched the newcaster get told to leave the area. Watched the flames come over a hill crest in like seconds.

Cath, did it jump 36 yet?

With the wind and the dry conditions this could seriously suk. I really hope they can control it. I have no idea how big it is yet though.

There are two unrelated fires burning -- and with these winds, both are dangerous.

It was looking big...but what's weird is that much of what the news crew was filming...the fire went back on itself or flared up again over an area it had already touched. I dunno if many are familiar with the area...but it's close to the Left Hand Canyon turn-off. Just south of that and also close to Lee Hill Road.

I watched the fire leap the road while the reporter was talking and when it got to the open field on the East side of the road, it just ran across the field within seconds.

Anyhoo, you guys can watch the news.

Fires happen. It's been windy and dry on this side of the mountains, so meh...

Wow, >11,200 homes evacuated now. Hopefully the winds die down soon!

Wildland grass fires can be nasty stuff. It's amazing how fast those flames will spread with a little wind and some dry grass.

I know that Jeffs Elephant beer is OK. I have not heard an elevation to DEFCON 4 on the scanner. Jeff, you OK? What's the beer situation there? Can you get AM radio?

No E-beer tonight. Assisting the burn victims. Been a tough afternoon / evening. I haven't listened to AM radio since the late '70's --- why should I start now?

11:30 A.M. Media briefing scheduled concerning Boulder County Lode Stage Fire

(Boulder County, Colo.) - Boulder County Sheriff Commander Phil West will hold a media briefing on the latest developments in the Olde Stage Road Fire at 11:30 a.m. this morning at the U.S. Forest Service Boulder Ranger District office at 2140 Yarmouth Ave. in Boulder. The ranger office is located adjacent to U.S. Highway 36 on the east side about one-half mile northwest of Jay Road.

The following information has been updated since 7:00 a.m. this morning:

For official documentation purposes, the name of the fire is the Olde Stage Fire.

The Dakota Ridge subdivision is now open for residents to return. U.S. 36 is open to traffic. Lee Hill Road remains closed west of Dakota Ridge.

Evacuations east of U.S. 36 have been lifted; however evacuations west of U.S. 36 are still in effect and will be reassessed around noon. Areas still closed: Crestview Estates, and Olde Stage West. Some residents on the west side of U.S. 36 have been escorted by law enforcement back to their homes to retrieve pets.

The Boulder Reservoir has re-opened.

Crews are confident that the fire should be contained sometime today.

The Niwot High School evacuation center is being closed down this morning. Residents seeking information and assistance from the American Red Cross can report to Centennial Middle School, 2205 Norwood Ave., Boulder for assistance throughout the day.

Statistics:
Approximately 1,400 acres, within a 3,600 acre area, have burned.

Structure damage update: two homes were lost and one partially damaged. Three barns and several other outbuildings and small structures were also consumed in the fire.

Three injuries have been reported: one police officer and two firefighters have been treated for minor injuries.

Approximately 11,000 homes were contacted yesterday with evacuation recommendations.

Please check www.bouldercounty.org (http://www.bouldercounty.org/) for other updates throughout the day. An updated map of the fire boundary area is attached.

Wow! That's a pretty big fire. I know that area fairly well. Good thing it didn't make it to the diagonal, or especially across it.
