View Full Version : Best of 08 Riding Season

Damn...these warm days are making me all nostalgic and whatnot.

So, I've been thinking...we didn't do a "best of" riding season at the end of 08, just a lot of other 08 memories. So, post 'em up...best/worst riding memories for the 08 season.

The annual Memorial Day (North meets South) ride extravaganza is always a hit in my mind:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l12/mtnairlover/rooftopparking-1.jpg

Then, there was the "Girlie Ride" (2nd attempt) in June. Officer J. Kimmel was the best. I giggled to myself when Sully asked if the 'J' stood for Jimmy:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l12/mtnairlover/cafe-1.jpg

Riding to Aspen for lunch turned out to be more like a ride for an after lunch snack, but oh my goodness what a day. Does anyone remember sitting in that parking lot outside of Aspen trying to figure out where the heck that restaurant Nick_Ninja had suggested was at? Thank goodness for Internet capable cell phones:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l12/mtnairlover/independencepassgroup-1.jpg

Oh, I just remembered...what about when we were riding around Leadville trying to find any ol' shop that was selling hoodies? Betcha that'll teach Ted to be more prepared.

God! I can't wait for more long rides this summer...oh, and maybe an overnighter or two, or three...

Freakin sunshine screwing with my brain anyway.

C'mon summer!!!!

mmm..... Bad = Officer Robinson .. :321: really ruined that day for me.. but ahh... everything happens for a reason, or so I'm told. I did meet some nice people on that ride though. Bummed I missed out on both of the n00b rides in 2008.

mmm.... Good = Hwy 7... as usual, the girlie ride. The ride to Winter Park staring at an 848's ass. Riding through Rocky Mountain National Park :yumyum: Also meeting and riding with new and old friends :)

Ohh and I think it was Jen who asked if the "J" was for Jimmy..

D'oh. Well, there's no accounting for getting older and what my brain retains, huh?

Give me a day of riding with friends all over the mountains and it's the scenery, the friends and twisties that stand out in my mind. :)

- Highway 7 .. nuff said!

- Toy Run, always a good event.

09's starting off well, with last weekend's great turnout.

This year I want to try and do a weekender to Gunnison or the western slope & the San Juans.

Since I only got to ride twice last year (:() I have 2 good days.

First was a ride w/ Chad23, CatNip and some others, unfortunately Cat went down on our way down Hwy. 7, but the ride was awesome besides that part.

The next day I met up with Curtis (Wahooman) and got to take his R6 race bike out on the track. Good times. :D

don't have a pic handy, but one S.S.S. Ride last May was much fun. Even though the service at Tommyknockers left a lot to be desired.

Now that I'm out of school I hope to make many more of these in 09!

Great idea Cathy!!!!

So many good rides, to bad I'm at work with almost none of my pics :banghead:
Trail Ridge Rides are always great. There were a ton of great wed night rides out of Boulder, but there are two that take the cake.

1. Going to Miller with R2SL
First time on the track and I got to ride it for 4 days

2. Chaicane Trackdays Labor Day Extravaganza!!!!!!
Being at the track for 3 days and hanging out with everybody in our camping area. And then when I got to ride the track wasn't busy and it felt great! Thanks Scott!

What a great year. I met so many great people, rode thousands of mines, got on the track (only to find out how slow I am :turtle:), LOTS of stories to tell and I'm still in one piece  Let's do it again this summer :hump:

These pictures, stories, and memories are making me JONES!!!

Hell, I wanna just take the car on some of these loops this weekend hahaha.

A little beautiful scenery. Some nice crisp air. Exhilarating roads. Yeah, I am in need of some high speed therapy.

Well, much as I'd love to go there, I still think the roads are better here. I like the wide-open sweepers through the mountains better, and the scenery (and the weather) in the West here flat smokes all the other places I've been, and seen from pics.

Definately on my places to go though, so I can see for myself.

Planning my July trip to Deals Gap now, Frank. I expect the riding in NC to be great as reported and just "different" from the best roads here.

Tom, I'm flying to Charlotte (my brother lives in Mooresville) and renting a Buell for a three day ride of 900 or so miles. I know some of the roads and have ordered a map from Madmaps. My plan is to head north and catch the Parkway back south and then west to Deals Gap. Looping around thru TN and return to Charlotte via a southern route. PM me your thoughts on a route. Thanks!

The parkway is going to be alright just watch out for the man. The speed limit is slow and it's considered a park so the ticket is not nice. Scenery is beautiful though.

Once you get to deals go check out the Cherohala skyway. You will be amazed. Its right out of Robbinsville. You're not going to have much more time than that. There is some great riding in Northern Georgia but that's a whole days ride. If you have time go down 28(hellbender) when you get to the CROT at the NC side of the Gap. It's a pretty wild ride as well.

It takes a full week to get some of the best roads in. Even with a week you can't hit them all. The place is amazing.

Good hunting.

Will do. Found some good info at http://www.dealsgap.com/

The guy who runs that site is Ben. He also is the manager at the CROT or the store at the NC end of the Gap. He is a wealth of info on what roads to ride at that particular time.

:)
