The simple fact that I could easily loose my CDL on "betty" and the fact my wife hates her (jealousy, cause she thinks I love Betty more, and it isn't comfortable for her on the back) has made me think about trading my @003 R1 for a Yamaha FZ 1. what do you think? would especially like to hear from FZ1 owners.

Thanks,
Lee

P.S. i am always up for a ride!

I bought my FZ1, after I realized the FZ6 was a little under-powered for two-up riding. After owning the FZ1 for a year, I love the bike. It isn't as fast as the R1 or other liter sport bikes, but it still fast enough to have a lot of fun in the canyons. The suspension is very sporty as well, allowing it do easily be used for sport and touring riding.

My Fiance likes the back seat a lot, and thinks it was more comfortable than the FZ6 too. She can go all day back there and not be uncomfortable. Also, it still has two separate seats like the R1, so the passenger does not slide into your back all the time like bikes with one seat for both people.

Last, the FZ1 isn't classified as a sport bike so the insurance is a lot cheaper, but it's still fun like a true sport bike.

I would greatly recommend the FZ1 for the purpose you want it for.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

I bought a FZ 1000 for the same reason. More comfortable to ride for me, has sport riding characteristics, and can go 2 up with ease.
If you didnt live so far away, I'd let you take it out.

Yea, have a FZ1 2007... nice bike. Really comfortable ride. Has all the performance (nearly) of the R1, but is a real pleasure to ride. Took me a about a year to get used to the seats though... not heavily padded, but comfortable enough.

The ride is great on most roads. Mountain and canyon road are a blast on this bike... very competent handling at ALL speeds. Plenty of power, almost too much, but should be perfect for carrying a passenger.

This is a FZ1 forum if you want to check it out too. They have a lot from performance mods, to reviews from other people that ride.

My boss has an FZ1 and swears by it. Much more comfortable riding around town and easier to behave on.

Lee,

The real question is, what will make you happier. You can just as easily get yourself in trouble on an FZ1 as on your R1. Shit, I've seen videos of guys on Goldwings tearing up The Dragon and easily exceeding the limit.

Is your wife going to any happier that you're on a standard than a sportbike? Is she going to ride with you all the time so it's a comfort thing?

I imagine you'll still be the one riding it by yourself 95% of the time, so what's going to make you happier? Your R1, or an FZ1?

Isn’t that how she got pregnant in the first place?

I (my wife and I) have a '07 FZ6. I ride it single most of the time. But when we ride 2 up she likes the fact that she can ride with me. She hasn't developed an iron butt yet so we keep it close to the Springs (read passenger seat thin). I do need some more ponies with two aboard but this is a great bike for returning to street riding.

Wow, I have only made that mistake once in my life. I don't ever ask if anyone is pregnant anymore.

Behave yourself so you don't lose your CDL, and get your woman her own bike. Problem solved.

i had a woman ask me how far along i was (when i was about 6 months) and i dropped my jaw and said "i'm NOT pregnant!" and she just went pale and started apologizing. lol, i told her "i'm 6 months and sorry but i couldn't resist it."

Trade In = Rape

I would craiglist it ASAP. Seems like the weather is getting a lot of us all hot & bothered for riding =P

Sounds like a plan IMO. I'm sure there are enough people on this forum already interested =)

Thanks for all the advice. I have her ("Betty") posted on CL in the Springs and Denver (http://cosprings.craigslist.org/mcy/1045954254.html). I found a 2001 FZ1 that I am thinking about trading for, but just not sure yet. Rode 250 miles today and really fell in love with her again. She was down from the end of October until Feb 10th for paint and new sprockets and some other mods, so we are just getting to know each other again.

FZ1 all the way!!!! Unless you are thinking about the FJR<---- This bike is sweet, and I have one for sale if you are interested. The only reason I am giving the bike up is that my wife is pregnant; otherwise, this is the best all around bike out there!!!!

I would recommend a 2006 or new FZ1. In 2006 they went to inverted fork, upgraded engine, and fuel injection.

So you just assume they are just fat? That's a lot better. :)
