View Full Version : MRA New Racer Schools April 11th and 12th

The GECCO
Thu Feb 26th, 2009, 12:00 PM
The MRA will be having two schools in April for new riders to get their 2009 MRA Racing License. Cost for the school is $200 per rider. This class makes you eligible to buy an MRA racing license, but the cost does not include the license itself. If you complete this class but do NOT want to purchase an MRA race license, we provide you with an HPR Lapping Day License at no additional cost.

This school is taught by two-time MRA #1 plate holder Mark Schellinger.

MANDATORY Friday evening (April 10th) classroom from 6pm - 9pm for BOTH schools.

The track day portion for School #1 is Saturday, April 11th
The track day portion for School #2 is Sunday, April 12th

Saturday school and Sunday school will be ALL DAY riding & instruction. Groups of 3-4 riders per instructor. Broken up by experience, displacement and type of bike.

Attention given to bike setup (general), tire pressures (brand specific), suspension settings (general), and anything you'll need to pass MRA tech.

Start procedure, body position, turn in point, increasing radius, decreasing radius, trail braking, etc, etc, etc...

Tons of on-bike practical experience, AND all the info on MRA specific racing stuff like registration, pre-tech, tech, flags, everything...

Was going to take this but finances preclude racing this year.
Out of curiosity, how long after taking the class do you have to get a license, and then how long till you have to take part in a race to keep your qualification?

The certification is good for two years to buy a license. Once you have the license you can renew without taking a class up to three years after your most recent RACE. If you buy the license but never actually enter a race, it's no different than just having the certificate.

I am interested in this. After the IMI day on the 22nd. I'm hooked. Do they have bikes or bring your own? I'm new to the scene, especially where racing is involved so all the knowledge I can get is a bonus.

Here's a thread on the MRA forum looking for '09 corner workers. Tim Young is the track marshall, he's probably the person to contact about working any particular event. Sounds like the staff requirement for HPR will be big, so anyone able to work that track will be very appreciated.

There's also a thread seeking corner workers for the April school days...

Hope that helps. :)

MRA race school is $200 and for your MRA race license it will cost you $100 more.

:doublefinger: No true'er'er'er words have ever been spoken.

It actually crossed my mind more then once, while riding that track, I will tell you.

It's a fairly technical track. It's hard. You absolutely must focus and think consistently. Yay ADHD!!!!

It's a hoot, once you finally figure out where the heck you are from lap to lap.

(why wouldn't my dad let me ride dirt as a kid, why why why why) Dammit :banghead:

I guess Daddies and their daughters are a prized possession apparently. Dammit.....:banghead:

What I do need to say, is that those MRA boys, the big dogs, will work your ass off. More, more, more....oh yea......and more!!!

Moreover, they coach and teach you, on pretty much anything.

This is a new track and everybody is still figuring things out. But it's fuuuuuuuuuuun.

Those boys have no boundries, and they will work you until you drop. (then they keep going)

I personnally, begged for mercy on more then one occassion.

And honestly, as exhausted as I am right now, I couldn't have loved it more.

Those kids party. And you do the same. You ride yo lil ass off.

As exhausted as I am, I am also thankful. Sore, tired, exhausted.....but thankful.

Day one was the wind and cold, then day two was the rain and cold not sure which was worse. For those that rode and survived you are allot tougher than most.
