Alright, so my roommate bought a bike off a friend of his back on the east coast. It's not out here yet but he rode it over winter break and hated it, said he liked his '05 gixxer 600 a lot better. He was telling me how his friend said it's an '07 R6, which it obviously is not unless it's an R6S. So he wants to sell it yet he doesn't know what year it is. Looks like an '05 to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looks to me like a 2003/4 R6. Note the front brake rotors, they aren't radially mounted and they switched to radial calipers in 2005. Plus, that is the older style fairings (as opposed to the new 2005 sharp angles sweeping from front top to bottom swingarm).

Tenth digit of the VIN is the model year.

Like XJ600s said, that's an '03 -'04 R6 or an '06+ R6S. The '05 has radial mounted front brake calipers and has an inverted fork.

This is an '05 R6.

Pull the vin number off and run it through an insurance quote online.

03-04 = standard forks.
05= inverted forks.
then the 06+ R6S's have the standard forks, but clearly have R6S on the fairings.

There should be a plate on the frame that says the year.

Sometimes there's something under the seat as well.

Upper is definitely off of an '03-'04 or '05+ R6s.

Find the VIN sticker, should clearly state the model year.

Thanks, we would look at the VIN, but the bike is back east right now so we can't do that.
