2003 to 2005 are basically the same. My first bike was a 2005 R6 and I loved that bike.

I have owned a 03 gsxr600 and a 03 636 how does this bike compare?

The R6 is my favorite of those three. Engine is flexible (for a 600) delivering power well throughout the rev range, but it really shines above 10K rpm. The chassis is easy to tune and the stock suspension bits are OK, if changing anything my first add would be a better rear shock.

It handles well, is very light and has fantastic brakes. The 636 is another good choice, but I always felt like the R6 liked to rev more freely than the 636 and turns better (IMO)

The GSXR has never felt comfortable to me, so I've never really ridden one at pace.

The 03-05 R6 are basically the same bikes with 03/04 having a standard front end and the 05 having inverted forks and regular brakes. While the inverted forks are cool, the standard set up seemed to work better on this chassis.

Hope that helps

I completely agree with Scott on this. I dont know much about suzuki's or Kawa's however I currently have a 08 r6 which is my third yamaha. A buddy of mine has a 05 r6, the inverted forks are a neat feature however unless your really pushing the bike, you may not feel the difference between the 04 and 05 as far as handling, I say this from personal experience of riding an r6 model with and without inverted forks. The r6 has a decent power range as well from bottom to top however r6's in general shine in the top range. I have ridden 600rr's which are great throughout the entire power range however do not compare to the top end power the R6 has. If the price is right, I would recommend getting it.
