I rode HPR today and it was a blast. It's super smooth and has an awesome variety of turns. Several of them are blind and I agree with Applehans, you have to be disciplined about your braking and turn-in markers otherwise you'll end up in the dirt. The corkscrew is a lot of fun. If all you've done is flat tracks like PMP, you're in for a big surprise with the elevation changes.

You have to watch out for tumbleweeds. I was coming out of turn 6 and had one blow across the track but I was able to avoid it. I hear someone else wasn't so lucky and went down.

No to rehabilitate my legs. They feel like jell-o. Unlike PMP there aren't places where you can rest very much. I hope I can survive the endurance races out there. :)

I did but I was having trouble with the camera all day. The only decent video I got was a few laps when I first went out and I was going like a :turtle:, even more so than usual.

How is this different than all of the other times you ride on the track. :slappers:

(quick runs hides. But unfortunately Dirk passes me as I'm running away :( )

If you put it up, I'd still like to see it.

I'm going to put some food in my belly and if I don't fall asleep afterward, I'll write up my impression of one lap around the track with some video snippets.

Ok, I didn't fall asleep yet. Turns 1-3 are fairly flat and this section (including the track entry at the top of turn 2) reminds me of Hastings. Turn 3, a right-hander, has two parts to it, like 6a and 6b at PMP. 3a is sharper and you'll want to drive hard out of it and drift to the left, staying on the gas since 3b is a fairly gentle turn that dumps you onto the back straightaway. My feeling is that this is one of the most important turns on the track since a good drive through here will have a dramatic effect on your top speed down the straight. The back straight is noticeably shorter than the front straight at PMP.

Here's a clip of 1-3. Ignore the horrible lines. This was my first session and I was very tentative.

Alright, turn 4 is at the end of the back straight and is a flat right hander that strikes me as similar to turn 2 at PMP in terms of radius. On the exit you've got a little bit of straight leading into turn 5, the first blind turn. But as you come up to the turn-in point, you get a good view of it and the downhill straight into turn 6.

Turn 6 is a right-hand button-hook turn that tightens a little at the exit. Then you got a nice straight section that leads into 7 which is a fast sweeper that goes uphill. You can settle in and stay on the gas well past the end of the turn but you have to get on the brakes pretty good because turn 8 is the slowest turn on the track.

Here's a snippet of 4-7. I think 7 is my favorite turn on the track.

Turn 8 is the slow turn on the track but you can get a good drive out of it going into 9 and 10 (right then left down a hill with a fairly fast right-hander at the bottom). Then you've got a little bit of a straight before getting to 11. That is the one I found the trickiest since it tightens up noticeably on the exit while you're going uphill. But the good thing is that you have a left-hand kink in the track so your momentum carries you into that kink. You continue up the hill into the blind entrance to the Corkscrew...

Here's 8-11;

EDIT: Ok, that left-hand kink is turn 12.

And we end with the climb up the hill and the blind entrance to the corkscrew. This is a fun section, left-right-left and back onto the front straightaway and the start-finish line.

Diego won't be there and I am undecided at the moment. I need to see how well my old legs recover. :)

Ok. I'm planning to corner work on Sunday for 1/2 a day so I'll see you then for sure, barring a rainout.

HPR is awesome. That track has the potential of being extremely fast, but it is complicated and you need to work hard to find your markers and figure it out. Seems to be a lot of turns that decrease in radius too, so discipline is the key to maintain the flow. I am a tired unit today, it kicked my but...

I may try and make it on Sunday, in the air still.

Back to reality, back to work... lol

Sweet! Thanks Dirk and Diego for the run-down of the track.

If you are both that tired, it must have been a great day in the sun. Glad you had a nice day.

Now to work on getting Muther Nature's attitude cleaned up for this weekend. :)

Sweet! Thanks Dirk and Diego for the run-down of the track.

:)

It was nice hanging out with good company too, Elden, Joe, Dik (j/k), Lola... it was fun.

Thanks Glenn, he push-towed my sorry @ss back to the pits after my clutch cable spontaneously dis-adjusted itself in the middle of a session... Joe sprinkled his magic and made it all good, thanks again.

The weather was definitely good, I have a red bald attachment (seemingly its only function....:banghead:) on my shoulders as proof, I guess sunscreen only early in the morning won't do. There was some wind that brought some killer tumbleweeds along, but not bad... lol

I heard that too, we may try to move to Saturday taking the weather report into account.
