The 'busa's at 86,000 and a little miles.

I've been planning on an upgrade to the bike when it hit 100,000 miles but a couple of oil leaks in the engine (head gasket and shifter seal mainly) and the valves being a tad out of spec (a bit more than .025 and range is .019 to .025) had me arranging for some work.

Kevin up at Epic has the bike apart now. I dropped by last week to check it out and get an evaluation. Lots of good marks. The valve faces look good (he asked if I was using higher octane gas; nope :) ). The cam chain looks well maintained, no kinking. The cylinders look good, no scoring. The rings are starting to let a little oil through. Head gasket and shifter seal of course. Shims as well.

Since it was apart, I said to go ahead and replace the rings and base seal. Better to do it now than in a year or two :)

Upgrade is the power commander III and a set of yosh pipes along with a dyno tune.

Looking forward to getting her back :D

You should definitely feel the difference, cool:)

Are you going to brake-in the rings on the dyno? What is the usual procedure when you change only the rings?

I was thinking about that after I left but hadn't asked yet. It may be a take it out and break it in then bring it back for the tune. I'll know for sure when I talk to Kevin again.

You usually have to break in rings by hoaning the cylinder and letting the new rings seat in as it polishes the cylinder. But the first break in procedure usually works best.
600 miles going slow. But I could be wrong?

breaking (car) engines in on a dyno was simple...a couple half throttle pulls, relash the valves, and let her rip good luck with it...I hope my sprint holds up as well as the busa
