View Full Version : "4th annual memorial day ride" discussion thread..

one month from now will be the date of our memorial day ride.
where north meet's south.
i would like to discuss plan's and meeting points in this thread.
mtnairlover and i usually plan the beginning point for the "northies".
last year i made reservation's in lyons for our group and it was not well received by the owner.(resturaunt did not receive enough business)
the diamond shamrock cannot fulfill all of us in it's parking lot,but we may be able to overspill into the "Red hill" dealership.
from lyons we will make our way south as far as idaho springs.
i know we have one member here who has (or had) a resturaunt in that area.
anyone remember who that was??
we would like some input into whether said establishment can accomodate 60+ bikers for lunch or if there is a better place to meet.

i forget who was in charge of the "southies",but i hope he or she will do his best this year to gather the troop's.

again i hope this year will be greater than last year and that we can just have as much fun as a group, but keep it cool as usual.

also suggested routes.
typically the northies will leave out of lyons and head to nederland for a gas up and then down south.
are there any suggestion's from people who may be attending on which route we may want to take this year??

every year this ride has taken place has been one of greatness.
let's do it again with pride and a little fun included.

all suggestion's will be helpful.

Echo Lake Lodge opens that weekend and they have a fairly large dining room...just a thought.

i hate that it is so quiet here on the weekends.
no one else has any opinions on the ride???
or at least routes?

Pretty much the usual canyon carve from up north. After Idaho Springs.. any thoughts about the condition of Berthoud Pass? Or perhaps down towards Deckers? I've been to the diner in Idaho Springs, it'll probably hold 60 but at the expense of pushing out the regulars. Maybe the casinos are a better bet. The food at Marion's is way better though. Echo lake... meh.. maybe. I'm hoping for warm weather so we can go further into the mountains, like maybe Winter Park or Breckenridge by that time.

sounds like a few good ideas.
this ride is for all the members who join us each year,so i want to make sure we accomodate the best we can.

+1 on Marions of the Rockies :yumyum:... That is a MRA double header weekend in Hastings. You may want to call Scott (if he's not racing) and see if you can set something up. I'm sure he would be delighted to have you hooligans in there !

I vote to keep it more social than a big ride. Find a good place for lunch that is close and will accomodate. Small groups can meet enroute or even arrive alone. There are lots of rides...keep it meet, greet, eat.

Good pick on Marion's of the Rockies (http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF-8&q=Marions+of+the+Rockies&near=Longmont,+CO&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&cid=15906363640965327590&li=lmd&z=14&t=m)...it looks like it's off of Exit 241B and looks like the parking lot will accommodate a boat-load of bikes. Next thing to do would be to get an idea of an approximate number of riders and then call ahead to be sure accommodations can be made.

The good thing about this location is that all riders from all over can ride in the hills before stopping for lunch. After lunch, there's lots more riding to be had in all sorts of directions.

Oh and I happen to really like this particular day for a ride with a bunch of my riding buddies and pals.;)

Soooo...anyone else got something to add? I'll have to start making calls to restaurants.

sorry with the new work schedule starting on the 17th, I will have thurs-fri off no Sunday riding for me. But I would be "honored" if the normal group of lowlife thugs would ride with me that saturday so i can still feel like part of the group

I know Chad's schedule has changed, but there's always Saturday for a group ride somewhere's...hmmm, I'm thinking biscuits and gravy along with a run to maybe Walden, or a little further into the hills...

Groups can meet up all over for the 24th...like MoCO, Boulder, Lyons, etc. and then ride to Idaho Springs. We can mix up the groups for riding after wards to parts unknown, if that's the way things go.

mmmm....Summer....=D

Dunno...I think they just came to infiltrate our ranks...

Actually, I spoke with Tipys (Trevor) last Wednesday and he said he may not be available...he's one of the Southies that will come up in our direction. I haven't heard from Jim (Jim Wallace) for quite a while, but he likes to ride up in our hills, too. Then, you've got Bash, Mental and gsxrScott...just not sure if any of them will be free.

So...hey guys, this is a shout out.:)

I will look into rounding up the NCM crew to join in on the fun, though, this is the same Sunday that Bandemere is hosting their all MC day to spank the 1/4 sooooo.....................
surely the ones interested in running the 1/4 mile that day, including myself, can come out for this ride and then perhaps roll straight over to Bandemere sometime after lunch.
will check in as details develop.

It would be great to see everyone, but whatever y'all end up doing, then I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

If you haven't noticed, I keep talking about Sunday like it's ma birfday or sumpin'...and actually, it is. So, having my birthday fall on the same day as the 4th Annual Mem-Day/north meets south ride is kind of a bonus in my mind. Spending that day riding around with a bunch'o wonderful people makes it that much better.:)

How will I know you when I see you? :) Teasing Mayo.

This is THE ride I fondly look forward to. I came last year and damn near cried with all the wonderful people that showed. I loved every second of every minute of it thanks to Bueller who baby'd me down the hwy for the first time ever. Not to mention the rest of you all.

I'm all veklempt!!!! LOL

What an amazing memory this ride is. North meets South. It's an absolute pleasure on every level to be there on THAT day. It's a day for some of the finest people I know, that ride together and maintain those wonderful friendships for the entire year because they are just good people.

If I can make it, I'm comin'. This is my favorite ride of all them.

Yo everybody wazzup?! Yup it has been a long time since ive been on the boards mostly cuz.... i own a restaurant:drink:Cant race because im short handed again :banghead: so Ill be there for sure. From what my wife has told me you guys are looking for us to host about sixty for brunch. Yes and no..... here is the deal, we seat 88 total and about a 100 if I pull out the fold up chairs and tables:). l would absolutely love to hold the back room for you guys if you can commit to a certain time (so that we have time to clear the locals and such in time) but this will only hold about 40 peeps. after that we would have to seat a few in the main dining room. So some may be fed later or not be able to sit with the entire group. Im not sure how you guys usually do it but I host the Mile Hi Jeep club also on weekends and they usually just come and eat at will and then just hang and BS for a while outside until the whole group has finished. So I just need somebody to call me 720.252.6685 probably at night when Im not working and let me know if this is still an idea. worst part about the idea..... I cant go riding with you guys after:( OH... and for parking I think we could cone off the restaurant next door (went out of biz) so that you guys have somewhere to park. those that have been by know that parking is a pain in my area.

Annnnd thanks to all of you that have come by and eaten there I really appreciate it!! Glad you enjoyed :)

scott.
thanks for the response.
i may try to call you tonight, but here is the general idea.
last year we had a total of 60 peeps that met in blackhawk.
http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/1424/p5250034ah5.jpg

so yeah.
it is quite possible we will need a large parking area.

i suspect that any and all that will be meeting us at your place to eat will arrive between noon and 1pm.
i know that sounds vague, but it's the best i can assume.

i think it is cool that you would actually consider opening up for us even if it were your day off.

on another note.
none of us would be enjoying alcoholic beverages.
bikers and beer do not mix.
i hope we won't scare off your regulars on this day.

look forward to meeting you and making you cook a TON of food.

see you soon.

You are going to have to get somebody else this year for the southern group coordinator than me for this year. I am going out of town that weekend. Have fun, last year was, well interesting. I'm sure Tipsy will step up as he is like a little social butterfly.

I'd post a new one with head count.

so here are the details.
sunday may,24th

the northern group will be meeting at the diamond shamrock gas station in lyons.
4206 Ute Hwy, Longmont, CO‎ - (303) 823-5480‎

it has yet to be determined where the dirty southies will meet, but i'm sure tipys will make us all proud.

meet time for the northies will be between 8:30-9:30
there will be the typical speech,so be there to hear it.
leave time will be near 10 am.
from there the northies will make a short gas stop in nederland and head our way to meet the southerners in idaho springs at Marion's of the rockies.
2805 Colorado Blvd, Idaho Springs, CO‎ - (303) 567-2925‎

this will be our lunch meeting point!!
if any arrive before the rest of the group feel free to get your meal in and allow others to occupy the room that has been set aside for us.
we can seat at least 40 people in the reserved room according to scott (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/member.php?u=1616 (http://www.cosportbikeclub.org/forums/member.php?u=1616)) the owner.

from there the decision on what the group itself will do will be decided by the group.
I.E. north wishes to go south, south wishes to go north.
this will always be a small debate.
it will be decided after lunch.
let me know if i left anything out...
