So I just got me a '93 KLX650:
(I know, it's a Kawi, but what the hell, might as well slum it.)

http://images.craigslist.org/3n13k43p6ZZZZZZZZZ95458f8a54ee72614b0.jpg

Needs a little maintenance and TLC also some odds and ends to street it
but it's overall in pretty good shape. And the price was ok at $1,100.

So it's official, Dana and I no longer need to spend less time together.
(I wish I could quit that man.):slappers:

He's got the original dealership bill of sale with the sales doc to him from the original owner.
It has a headlight and tail light, but no brake light, mirror, or horn.

Also needs going through since it's not been riden or had any service in a couple years.
Tune up, carb clean, new tires, oil change.
It's motor is strong and the gears all shift smoothly.

Hopefully I'll have time later in June to get it ready for street.
Going to pick it up right now.:)

Getting a title may have gotten way more difficult. I would try and get one ASAP in case you can still slip through the cracks, at least see if you can get a VIN inspection.

From a different board, posted by an employee of Fay Meyers

Things have changed drastically in the last month. Dealerships cannot do the Vin Inspection for street legalizing a bike, they now have Certified Vin Inspections that a State Patrol Officer needs to fill out. This includes a check list of things that need to be done to the bike.....it's not as easy as getting the Vin Verification and going to the DMV anymore.

The forms are on the wall at the DMV. Pretty easy to get the bike inspected and certified by a PoPo still. Just have everything it says on the list and pay the officer some moniez.

The girl I am working with at the DMZ on my title has told me that a lot people are freaking out but it is really not that hard. It will be illegal tho. She just does not know exactly when.

Becomes a bitch on a "real" dirtbike, no lighting provisions. DOT tires just for the inspection, brake switches, DOT lights front and back, possibly high/low beam, horn (might just need bicycle squeeze horn).
We used to have to go through this on bikes in the 80's. Yes we are freaking out because it is a pain in the ass! Of course a Govt. employee is going to tell you it's no big deal, what the hell does she care it most likely doesn't effect her. There is nothing simple at the DMV.
