I went solo down to orange county california on my CBR600f2. I headed out west on I70 until fremont junction in the middle of utah and headed south. I did not see any cars for about 100 miles and for a little while it felt like I entered the twilight zone. The road started to get moderatly twisty but as I approached dixie national forest but cattle were standing in alot of the turns because it was an open range. It was really pretty though. I made it to torey utah and stayed the night.

I continued the next day and stayed in the mountains and road through bryce canyon and exited the mountains at cedar city utah. The road was twisty but had tar snakes everywhere and exposed cliff dropoffs but was fun anyways and the scenery made up for it by far. I continued down to las vegas and stayed the night and powered my way to orange county the next day.

I visited family and through the advice of my uncle went up the ortega highway. On the approach a group of sportbikes was weaving in and out of traffic and splitting lanes on the approach to the twisties. They were fully leathered up and figured they were going to leave me in the dust. On colorado canyon riding standards I consider my self average for people that actually ride. Well any ways, I ended up catching up to them about 3 hard turns into the highway. I guess they handle traffic better than us in CO but we have by far more difficult roads to negotiate. The highway was awesome though becasue of the combanation of high speed limit and slow turns and good road quality.

I came back on the I40 and headed up north at flagstaff arazona and went by the grand canyon and headed up to durango. From durango to denver I got hailed on twice and rained on the whole way back. I had rain gear but was freezing regardless.

Now I need to get my bike tuned up and a new set of tires because they are squared off. Overall It was a fun trip

Im kinda depressed because I cant ride my bike until I get new tires and get my bike tuned up...It sounds like a sewing machine after the trip. The valves are way out and the carbs need to be sync'ed and the rear tire is done and the front only has about 800 miles left.

What sport touring tires would you guys recomend? I got conti road attacks last time and they seemed pretty good. But I have only been on those and the crappy stock ex250 tires...thanks in advance

Stick with what works... I like Conti R.A.s myself. I have them on my S3

Myself and Gary (Rapparee) are doing the same trek with a lil modified route in 2 weeks.

My parents live out in SoCal. San Fernando Valley to be exact.

right on... i think we plan to hit Ortega Highway at least one day. Going to stay the fuck away from Newport and Huntington Beach. I heard they are cracking down on riders left and right. The rest of the time we'll be riding through the Santa Monica mountains, and up into Ojai.

Yeah the bike needs some TLC for sure. The grand canyon is southwest from here. The best way to go to the grand canyon is to take 285 down to 112 I think and then the 160 towards druango. Then head due south shortly after the four corners. That is how I came back you meet up on the old route 66...mostly I40 now

The bar on El Toro road that leads to Santiago Canyon road is called
Cooks Corner; mostly Harley poser wannabes accountants and lawyers.
The Lookout bar/restaurant is the one on Ortega Highway near the east Lake Elsinore side; good sportbike place. And of course, if you'd had time, The Rock Store on Mulholland north of Hollywood is great on the weekends, usually celebrities or two on the weekends (Leno is a regular there, turbine bike, etc is usual). And of course, Newcombs Ranch restaurant on Angeles Crest Highway is the holy ground in So. Cal... Most excellent, (mostly empty) highway of curves, twists, views, and primo pavement.

Ummmm.... not quite. That road is surveyed by officer Stoner. Ride that road long enough you will get a ticket from him.

The first part of ACH, in my opinion, is full of kids who ride way past their abilities. Riding the other side of the road known as Angeles Forest Highway up to 9 mile, then over to ACH is a much better ride. Too bad they will never fix the road past Newcombs that leads up into Wrightwood.

Another good ride is starting on Valencia and going up to Lake Hughes.

And the best canyon ride out in SoCal is up in Ojai. Start in Santa Paula along highway 126. Then jump onto highway 33 through Ojai to highway 166 in Maricopa. And that will take ya to Frazer Park. About 30 min north of Santa Clarita along the 5 freeway.

Sounds like you took Utah 12 through Boulder and Escalante? By far one of the best roads for twisties as it winds through the canyons. I remember some snakes further toward the south side. But the 26 miles of drop offs without guardrails makes the ride a thriller. Glad to read that you had a fine trip.:)http://www.escapeadventures.com/art/tours/road/ut_esc_01.jpg
