The road is only like 7 miles long, but every turn in banked and there's not usually much traffic. Last time i rode that road we went to the observatory at the top.

holy sh1t, ppl drop oil in turns on purpose up there?!ya there's been a few times when we would ride from LA to Palomar to find out from some of the locals that one or two turns have oil in them. Then again this was about 6 or 7 years ago.

i was riding palomar couple times a week when i lived in oceanside back in 03/04. the residents on the southside have been known to put oil out in the turns, boulders and bricks, etc. its as dangerous as it is fun. the only public road that i have ever been able to easily drag a knee and get the tires up to track temperature. saw alot of bad wrecks up there and a few fatalities. last time i ever rode it the week before i moved back to co i saw a busa that hit the guardrail hard and I had heard later that the rider didnt make it.

I did Palomar last March and heard the same stories about oil. Then again, the pea soup fog made it hard to see even three bike lengths ahead, and I wasn't about to wad up a rental 600RR. By the time we got to Mother's Restaurant we broke through the cloud cover and the rest of the time it was great. Mmmm I miss the Julian apple pies.

This is as close as I got last week, though, have had some fun on palomar back in the day. Did not have a bike to ride so just as well I turned left.
Went to the second pic later that day to eat away my sorrow.

Nice Pics!

Having ridden the last 10 years in CA, I can tell you that while P-mountain is great, it's usually crowded and heavily guarded.. Head to NorCal for some top notch roads!

I do miss no gravel/snow stuff.

You still call that Palomar? I'd call it CA Hwy 74, Palms to Pines, into Palm Desert.
I miss that road. Pretty.

Did you guys ever ride the old highway right next to the Mexican border? A buddy took me down there south of San Diego. It goes east into the desert and is all high speed ups and downs and sweepers and medium speed corners. It went past some wind farms too IIRC. Great riding out there, the only LEO we saw were border patrol trucks.

Not me... usually spent most of my time in the Santa Monica mountains (mulholland area), the hills up in Santa Clarita, Angeles Forest area, and Asuza area.
