Have been riding cruisers/sportbikes off an on for several years. I just bought a triumph daytona and have been thinking about getting serious leathers and taking it out to the track. Just wondering what to expect/tips/advice. Can't say that I'm prone to pushing the limits...especially with such a new bike but I really want to see what she can do!

You'll only regret not doing track days. Lots of posts in this section. Or, go to the races, watch and ask around, you'll get all the info you need. After a year or so of track days I ended up getting a track specific bike, was just having too much fun to continue riding/risking the Aprilia on the track.

If you wanna do trackdays, Chicane trackdays is the way to go.
with so many people supporting the forums here, Gear (leathers/boots/gloves) isnt too hard to borrow.

hopefully if a trackday falls on my days off (work sucks) Ill be glad to take you around the track, HPR or PMP.

And dont be worried about pushing the limits, you will find your limits with time. Just hopefully not too fast : P just be smart and have patience and you will do great.

just dont take it out to the canyons and try to drag knee and do anything stupid. : P
no offense to people that do so, but i have seen people die/hurt themselves really bad doing it.
gimme a call if you have any questions

Wouldn't you believe it, this Friday we're doing a track day at Pueblo! www.chicanetrackdays.com

Also we have another track event in Utah next weekend if you don't mind a little drive, for Racing 2 Save Lives! Free instruction for the entire 3 days, and the money we raise goes to children's charities! www.racing2savelives.org

leathers and taking it out to the track. As Cromer said, you can always borrow some leathers first to try it out. Alot of us try and help each other out when we can. What size are you?

Make sure you and your bike meet these requirements:

Just wondering what to expect/tips/advice.You never have to go faster than you feel comfortable. For the most part, people check their ego at the door on track days. It's about going out and having fun. Being new to the track, you will take an introductory course and work with a coach to start out. Just listen to what they say and it will be super easy.

Good luck, hope to see you out there.

Careful with getting a track bike. Some people get throttle happy trying to play with their buddies.

Buy some race bodywork or some old rashed up shit and save your good stuff. Almost everyone crashes sooner or later.........it happens, trust me ;)

Hey Sean the Ego isn't always checked at the track by all people. I cant find the artical but right after the Demso was put out some dumped there friends 2nd one at a track in North FL (Jennys GP) because a girl kept passing him so he was trying to keep up and guess what Ego plus friends 72k bike equals

Hey Sean the Ego isn't always checked at the track by all people.True, it's not. I'm just saying as a general rule of thumb. I've never been looked down on because I wasn't as fast as someone else. But don't confuse egotistical (http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/egotistical) with being competitive (http://mw1.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/competitive). Very different. Sounds like that guy was letting his competitive side out weigh his skill level.

That sounds more like Ego to me

Be fully prepared to feel an urge to go buy a track bike and use all your vacation time to go to track days.

Thanks for all the info! I'm not sure what my suit size is. I have a real nice alpinestars jacket with full armor (came w/ the bike) and it has zippers to put pants w/ it. I need to invest in some gloves for sure...looking at icon merc short glvoes for everyday riding....but i think you need full length for the track. I really want to at least go out to watch on friday but i'm going to be out of town!:(

...that Desmo is an absolute tragedy. You'd think that someone riding a bike of that caliber would be more responsible....but like you said...some can't keep the ego in check.

That guy that wrecked the desmo would be no friend of mine after.

If you ask me the owner's a dumbass for letting a friend ride a $72,000 bike at a race track. :guns:

Thanks for all the info! I'm not sure what my suit size is. When you want to go to a track day (or when you can), post up your weight and height. People will be able to help by comparing size.

I have a real nice alpinestars jacket with full armor (came w/ the bike) and it has zippers to put pants w/ it. Half way there. Just look for a good deal on some new or used Astar pants. These will do a solid job of protecting you in the beginner and medium groups. Advanced track riders are req to have a 1 piece.

I need to invest in some gloves for sure but i think you need full length for the track. Yup, gauntlet gloves are a must. Again, keep an eye out for deals.

nothing wrong with getting passed by a girl-Ask Rybo and everyone else at the WSBK Challenge about getting passed by a girl. There's lots of really fast ladies on the track!

Chances are it's a lie. Dude binned a Desmo and had to figure out some bullshit macho thing to cover his ass. imo

Guy with the Desmosedici was at his first track day, obviously his friend had enough money he wasn't too worried about it.

As far as your first time you won't go fast but you will learn a lot, lines, body position, brake and throttle control...even friends of mine who considered themselves "fast" street riders were pretty humbled by their first track time.

Moral is go easy, learn the lines and you will find yourself replaying the track in your head over and over until your next time out which will let you enjoy it even more. Even going slow on the track is more fun than the street, if only I had one in my backyard...

Chicane FTW

You are more than welcome to stop by the Chicane registration area and ask for Aaron. I will be in that area. I would be more than happy to show you around and introduce you to a few people that I know.

haha in my motocross days I had one jump over me.... :banghead:

So many people available to help at the track, but do get on one. The improvements in your riding will be very real.

That must have been an amazing site to see being jumped over. Whenever I see them passing me or whatever I just think to myself, wow, that is cool. And to see them get up from a good crash without a tear in their eye almost makes me cry.
