I've been riding for about 20 years on the street. A lot has changed, both with myself, my choices in gear, and the bikes themselves.
Then: Only gear was a helmet, and only because it was required in Texas. We literally wore nothing, even in the twisties. I only knew one guy that even had a real motorcycle jacket. Tank tops, shorts, whatever, were the norm. No flip flops, cuz dudes didn't wear shit like that back then.
Now: All the gear, all the time.
Then: Fast in the straights, slow in the corners.
Now: Fast in the corners, slow in the straights.
Then: Rode drunk and on drugs. We used to drop acid and go riding. My only wreck came on my 18th birthday, while I was drunk. Yeah, I was wearing a lid, along with a tank top, shorts, and boat shoes with no socks. Yeah, the road rash sucked.
Now: Are you shitting me? I would never think about getting on the bike wasted.
Then: No regard for the law.
Now: A high regard for my cheap insurance prices.
Then: The 750 class was the pinnacle of street bike engineering. Liter bikes were big, bloated things that would be classified as touring bikes these days, 'cept the original Gixxer 1100.
Now: What's a 750?
I had thought of more, but now that I am sitting here I can't think of anything else. Anyone got some?
