I don't know what's funnier, the items on this page or the fact that someone took the time to write them:

At what time of day is a gentleman most likely to fart?
A gentleman is mostly likely to fart first thing in the morning, while in the bathroom. This is known as "morning thunder," and if the gentleman gets good resonance, it can be heard throughout the household.

No, it's more of the sulfurous compounds like hydrogen sulfide (H2S). I worked at a DoE lab years ago on a project to remove sulfur compounds from coal gas and when the reactor had a leak, the whole site griped about it. :) H2S can be dangerous and even deadly in relatively modest concentrations (~100 ppm). Fortunately your nose can detect it at even tiny concentrations (a few ppb).
We didn't study what the typical concentrations were in farts. http://www.boulder.swri.edu/%7Eterrell/images/goofy.gif

I think we should use some government money and make this a pork spending project.
Necessary research.
