If you want a really cool overlay for Colorado, for Google Earth, shoot me a PM with your email address. It is an overlay for all of the forest roads, their types, uses, and locations. Pretty damned sweet if you want to plan a little back woods adventure.

Just drag and drop it in Google Earth then zoom into Colorado. You can then mouse over the highlighted trails and get info about them.

You can see from this sample that the forest road I clicked is:

4 wheel drive

Pike National Forest

Standard dirt road

Road # 347

It takes a little practice to get the cursor right to click on the highlighted lines, and it is MUCH easier the further in you are zoomed. But it is a cool tool.

I know you can get the KML files and FML files from the USFS sites and stuff. We just tweaked this one a little bit.

Does it have camp sites on the forest roads?

Nope, just info about the roads.

Sounds like a feature request to me.

So are you considering the current version a beta? When do you expect to release the beta 2? When do you expect to go general availability?

Sorry... I work in IT... couldn't resist. :D

haha Once I learn how to use ArcGIS 9.3 and get comfortable with this, I can be of some help. Until then, I have to reply the kindness and free time of my pal at work :)
