I am no longer gonna post stupid threads like my "up the poudre" ever again. Holy cow, how does that happen? And why would the caller just drive off and not wait around for rescuers to show up?

So sad.:(

Yeah makes you wonder if the caller had anything to do with the accident.

Sucks the guy didn't wait around...of course, we all know this could totally be the motorcyclists fault and it was just a passerby who called. Don't be so quick on the blame guys...

Not blaming, but you gotta wonder why anyone would witness an accident and not lift a finger to help, or do anything at all...I mean...personally, I would have pulled over immediately, ran to the side of the road, looked at the river and run down the bank to see if there was any way at all that I could do something. I couldn't bear the thought of watching another human being die in front of me and I did nothing to help, let alone call it in and not wait around for the emergency crew...it's just strange. And yes, we need to know more of the story...lots more.

Agreed.

The rider was borrowing the bike, so he may have not been familiar with the TYPE of bike or have the skill level needed for the bike.
Poudre Canyon can take your life quickly if you start sight-seeing while riding.

Still RIP rider:(

easy, most people now are so self absorbed that it would be a waste of their day to help someone in need. They probably were in a hurry to get home make a turkey potpie and watch so you think you can dance.
everyday i find another reason to hate people, and to not even stop and try to help is one more reason

RIP.

I recall thinking what would happen if one were to lowside coming around that corner @ Poudre Falls heading to Walden.

Ya, there is always a ton of gravel coming off the large shoulders at that intersection. Can't decide if that would be a good or bad way to go.

Thanks for the follow-up post, Toby. Really sad to hear about. Again, I just don't get people...honestly. I mean, if you see someone in need, then help out for heaven's sake!

I know...not enough has been told in the stories and only the family and rescue personnel may know the full story.

Anyway, I found this posted on a site where rescuers will post information...it's a forum called "Mountain Buzz" (http://www.mountainbuzz.com/forums/f14/body-in-the-poudre-26302.html#post151411). I had seen a photo with the state patrol looking over the guardrail and the bike up against the guardrail and I knew where he went off...it was an area of the canyon called "The Narrows." This section of the canyon is pretty close to Ft. Collins, whereas Poudre Falls is way up past Rustic, where the road widens out.

The one thing about the Narrows is one of those turns is a very tight decreasing radius turn. Hell, they're all tight turns.

Anyway, the photo below is in the Narrows. This was taken a couple of years ago...

The guardrail is on a turn just before this area.

The guardrail is on a turn just before this area.
i had a close encounter with that rail earlier this year.
note the windscreen.
i bumped against the rail somewhere between the 2 signs.
