Anyone running a SSD as their main drive? Just wondering your impressions of it. Thinking of converting over when the prices drop a bit and I build a new gaming rig.

My brother just put one in his new box running Windows 7. He has had no complaints with it so far... in fact he said he loves it.

I'm running a Raid 0 two disk setup now. Just curious where the performance was in relation.

I'll give him a ring this afternoon and ask him for some specific input. :)

The only thing I run SSD on is my laptop. Less chance of losing data in a bump or drop.

I see no advantage in SSD's for desktop use right now. They are pricey, small, and still a little buggy. Why are you looking into SSD for gaming? I would go with some 15k RPM SCSI drives striped for a game rig.

However, I do know that it takes his computer about 5 seconds to power down and 15 to boot up. I about kicked his box after seeing that

Not necessarily for gaming. I was thinking about getting a relatively small one as the OS drive and then a high speed RAID setup for the actually gaming portion.

Good ol' Toms. The article I copy/pasta'd will give some more concrete evidence that back up the claims made by Tom's.

You should find an article more recent :)

A bit has changed in SSD technology since 2007 lol. Good read tho. I like their testing process.
