Until machines can feel emotions, I don’t see the issue here. Beating your toaster because is burns your toast only damages you because the worst that can happen is you have to get a new toaster.

Now if the toaster had feelings, the first question that has to be asked is what were the feelings the toaster had when you beat it. It might enjoy getting beating with a pan. On the other hand, if you broke it permanently would that be considered murder?

I don’t think you can put emotions to an object unless you become that object, otherwise how would you know what is was feeling.
