I have a GPS with a broken part I need soldered back on. I cannot do this myself. Anyone here able to help me out?

Here are pics of the PCB and the part to be soldered on it.

Thanks!

In the top of this board are 4 silver posts where the part goes:

I have an iron hat would probably work for that... You'd have to come to the house with it though.

Surface Mount components are neat and all, but through-hole stuff is just so much easier to fix. :|

Exactly. If I had the blade for mt iron, I might be able to do it. Lemme check and I will get back to ya :)

Cool. The tip on my Weller should be small enough to work on that, I use it on other SMD stuff.

You may want to try solder paste and a heat gun. Some SMD traces are small enough to be damaged or vaporized by even a 23 W iron.

I have a large hammer that might be of some assistance.

After spending an hour on youtube watching surface mount soldering vids, I think this is the best option. I need to secure it so it is SOLID. this is for a GPS for my dirtbike and the vibrations are pretty intense.

Thanks for the help peeps :)

Lemme know if you need to borrow a heat gun. I'm out of solder paste.

Also, after it's re-soldered, use something else to make sure it doesn't break off again. Depending on how strong it needs to be you could try some RTV, but be sure to get the kind that claims to be an adhesive as well as a sealant -AND- get the kind that is compatible with electronics. A favorite of mine is hot glue. Some folks recommend epoxy, but you may never get that component off again if you need to do a repair.

Have glue gun + plenty of glue if you go this route, Danamania.

I have a glue gun.

I can get the solder paste at a hobby shop and a heat gun should be easy.

Thanks for all of the advice!

I got a few wellers that have micro-small tips and can "get up in there" if you need it. See you got a few options here. Good luck, lmk if you need me.

True. That's why I got the temp-adjustable model. ;)

Did you get this fixed yet? If not, I'm certified to solder by NASA, or I was 10 years ago. I think I might still remember how...

I'm in Woodland Park, so it may be too far for you.
