The road was closed just below the tunnel.

Could have taken the Jenny loop around but opted to get the hell outta dodge instead.

My legs are noodles right now. Hope your back is ok Dana. Oh and thanks for picking up my swingarm cover. I heard some metallic rattling but I didn't clue in that was the cover about to fall off. What a great day, I'm going to have to check out some of those camp spots before the summer is out.

I've ridden my mountain bike up the Jenny Creek Trail and Rollins Pass Rd. to Yankee Doodle Lake. I've gone most of the way on my XR250. I am very impressed with anyone who can/would/did take a Yamaha FZ1 up that road. All I can say is, "wow". :hump:

Rewind...

Gene, Dana, Cathy and I met up in Rollinsville this morning with the goal of getting up to the Needles Eye. After the dirt road section, past Tolland and near the Moffat Tunnel, we get to the trail head. Hmm it's a little rocky. We see nothing but Jeeps and other 4x4's around. I look at Cathy and she seems game to make a go of it. So up the road we went. Dana and Gene on their DRZ's make short work of the trail. The Beemah handles the potholes and ruts ok, it's no DRZ though. We catch up at an overlook.

**** Kathy ***** Be sure to check your steering head bearings. I have ridden my ZZR on the dirty side of sanity for a few and it takes it toll. Ask Jim at TFOG how nasty the races were :shudder:

The top!! At least, the furthest we could go. The last 1/2mi or so before the Needle's Eye is blocked off to any motorized traffic.

And if Gene or Dana called Chokie like I told'm to you would have had the real scoop: (I didn't edit the photo -- it was my evil twin)

I did that run in June of '08. The "canyon" just passed the lake was still snowbound.

Awesome day today! Jeff it was nice meeting you. Cathy you are one tough cookie. It was really cool seeing you get that bike all the way up there. Dana thank you for taking me up there. Some of the coolest places I have ever been are the places you lead me too. If I can get the pictures off my phone I'll post them. I only got a few though.

Prior to my existence on this planet my forefathers were involved in the advancement of commerce in the Columbine State.

Before the Moffat Tunnel (http://www.ghostdepot.com/rg/mainline/moffat%20route/moffat%20tunnel.htm) was drilled through the Continental Divide they piloted (Engineered for those who are railroad technically challenged) over Rollins Pass.

If you get past the Needles Eye Tunnel you can traverse the Rifesight Notch Trestle:

Doeeet from the east. Horace Greeley said a long time ago -- "Go West Young Man.". I'll be damned if I'll deviate from that philosophy.

Thanks kindly.:) It's a Kawasaki Z705S, though.

Woke up at 4:00 this a.m. Getting outta my car after an hour drive, my legs are like, "You want us to do what?" lol Gonna have to take a little walk at lunch today, just to remind my body it still needs to do it's job.:)

What a day!

I will definitely take the bike in for a once-over. Funny thing yesterday while riding standing up, I found myself wanting to whip the bike side by side like a dirt bike past the rocks and stuff. Did really well going up. Was completely whipped myself coming back down...lol.

So, what's next? Riding by moonlight?

I remember driving on the trestles all the way through to winter park in the early 70's.

Mid eighties there was a road cut through at the lake that went up the back side to the tunnel and on over to winter park. The guy doing work on the tunnel cut it so people could drive over and bypass the tunnel. That is until the forest service told him to close it or maybe it was too dangerous with a hairpin over really loose rocks.

He had to finally stop trying to shore up the tunnel when a rock fell on a guy's foot and they had to amputate it.

Jenny creek trail is a good one as well. It crosses the creek a few times and also you have to ride/drive through the creek for a small protion of the ride/drive. It's a great trail through the forest.
