So, you're saying that Toyota makes an engine that puts out 570 ft. lbs. of torque?

Bigger IS better!! It's called roooooom, capacity, space, comfort, insert your favorite adjective here...

All new engine for 2005.

Kind of funny how a truck with such a bad reputation is the majority at the track...

Bigger IS better!! It's called roooooom, capacity, space, comfort, insert your favorite adjective here.... And it corners so gracefully! It also has a bigger gas tank for the expected $3.00 a gallon at the pumps this summer! I'll stick w/ toyota, can you say almost 20 mpg! And diesel is expected to be almost $4.00 a gal.

It handles great!!! Obviously, you've never riden in a new (2005) one. If you ever do ride in it, you'll be amazed. Corners almost flat. Gets better gas mileage than my Bronco (17 vs. 9-10), has a smaller tank and has more range. Haven't heard about the $4/gal. thing. Time will tell...

I think I'll keep it.

Wanna talk about my boat, now? It has a 42 gal. tank.

And actually, rumor is that the next big thing out of Toyota's truck dept are 3/4 and 1-Ton trucks with a 400HP/700+ftlb Diesel option and a larger V8. Since these "rumors" are becoming fairly well substantiated, I'm inclined to believe them. Expected release, 2007-2008. ;) Since T has been taking a big slice out of the domestic 1/2 ton market, it should make for some fun in a 2-3 years.

Don't get me wrong, if I needed a 3/4 ton I'd buy the Ford like you have right now; they're the best of the Big 3 IMO. But a few years from now, I'd probably go with a different brand. ;)

Wow! I didn't know that. I would totally buy the Toyota if they offer serious power. I think the Ford looks the best. But, we were thinking about the Duramax.

I can't see the vid, but I heard that we should see a full-size hybrid form Toyota within the next two years. It should offer more power and better gas mileage.

Doesnt look to me like Ford has anything to worry about in any truck market...

Kinda got issues if you expect your big giant trucks (which I love personally, espcially 2001+ powerstroke 6.0l) to be corner carvers......

Wanna carve corners, get an all wheel drive or 2 wd sport truck....

Wanna tow your house to the lake, buy a beast.

Wanna economy, buy a 4 banger....

Want a beast that can do it all excect carve corners, get a huge lifted f-250 powerstroke 4x4 long bed crewcab, banks powerpack, propane/nitrous injection, monster truck.

BTW, diesels dont' seem to be that bad on gas from what I hear.....

I like all trucks except for some dodges, and like fords and toyotas, but here's where dean's truck wins hands down, when he smashes into you with it......... So the score comes out to: toyota 3 dean 1, but dean still wins

fuel economy: toyota
handling: toyota
massive pileup: F-250

The larger diplacement Hemi's may produce more power...but they are outdated and extremely limited technology....there are far more impressive designs out there.

ressurecting an OLD POST:

So it's now December 2006 going into 2007. So far,

Ford will release a 4.5L V8 Turbo diesel F-150 sourced from the UK by 2009.

Toyota's NEWEST Tundra creation now has a 5.7L V8. 397hp I hear? Towing is now at 10,000lbs+. And diesel in the works.

Nissan diesel STILL rumored...

what else was brought up earlier????

OH YEAH. HEY NICK NINJA. IS THAT FJ CRUISER IN YOUR GARAGE YET?

Ummmmm...my 3/4 ton 4-door Dodge with the Cummins is rated to tow 13,500, if I drive it right I get 22 mpg and there are many, many guys over at the Turbo Diesel Register forum that belong to the million mile club. Many of them tow for a living - your Tacoma would not last 200,000 miles if it had 8600 pounds behind it the entire time.

Tacomas are great, Craig, don't get me wrong, but if you want something that was built to tow you need torque, not HP, and to get torque you need a diesel. The Cummins puts out 605 ft/lbs stock, and all you need to go over 800 is to plug in a programmer. The low engine speeds and massively built components (needed to survive the astronomical compression ratio of a diesel engine) results in a power plant that lasts forever.

If ford is going to source their diesel motor for the F-150 from International, like they did with the Superduty (7.3 & 6.0L), it will be the Int'l VT275 4.5L V6 w/ 200hp & 440lb-ft.

I saw a new '08 Superduty with the 6.4L in Baltimore, it had the ultra low sulpher emissions equipment also. Hope fully they have better luck with this one than they did with the 6.0L. The Int'l version of the 6.0L, called the VT365 wasn't looked upon as a great motor either in their applications. They even had it detuned to around 220hp for their medium duty truck applications to give it more life. We don't touch one of these as a trade in with more than 200k miles on it.

On another note, what tranny's are you guys running that have chipped diesel pickups? I'm guessing mostly manuals? I work with trucks in towing applications and most of our chassis with inline 6 motors (ie Cummins, Cats, Mercedes, Int'l DT) are putting out around 600ft-lb and 200-280hp all run Allison 2000 or 3000 series transmissions to handle the torque. Keep in mind these are 26000# GVWR trucks that will weigh about that with a full load and 14000# empty.

As far as a pickup truck, I would choose the Cummins personally. The V8 configurations just rev too high to make power and IMO sacrifice long term reliability. Now if they could just get an Allison on the back of the Cummins instead of the Aisin I think they'd have a winning combo.

Here's a real truck, makes pickups cower in its' path:D

'07 WesternStar 4900SA, Detroit Series 60 14.0L, 515hp@1800rpm / 1650lb-ft @ 1200rpm, Eaton Fuller 18spd, 60,700 GVWR, Jerr-Dan 35 wrecker boom, 17.5ton underlift capacity, $267,000 includes Federal Exise Tax. Let me know if you want to check it out.

 They should probably work on reliability before they start introducing new shit!! Nissan as a whole has gone down the tubes in that department!

I like Dean's Ford and would get one if I had the need for it, but right now if I were in the market for a truck I would probably go with a Toyota because it would do everything I need it to do, plus Toyota's are reliable like no other!

What I really want now though is one of those new Toyota FJ's, I really dig those a lot!

Titan made this years list for the least reliable truck on the market.:dunno:
I don't own one, so my remarks were based on what I have read. Hope it continues to be a great truck for ya, car/truck problems are always a pain in the ass!

The 08' or 08.5' Titan will have a diesel but they are still working on motor choice from what I hear. Sounds like they have looked into Navistar/Intl. 6.4L like the upcomming Powerstroke. Hopefully they put a better turbo on the 6.4L and fix the head issues.
I won't be taking my truck to any road courses anytime soon, or try to beat my Subaru on mileage, but going up I-70 w/ 1200 rw lb.ft. is fun.:fire:
I wouldn't mind having a Tundra tho.
