so I'm thinking of going camping somewhere along Guanella pass on labor day weekend.
There are some really killer spots up there many of which are directly on the stream for you fishermen/women.
It would be a little sketchy to ride up for the road is mostly dirt but it's doable.
I'll be bringing my little uns so let's call it 'kid friendly'.
anyone interested?

Guanella pass is closed due to a "large rock mass" that is getting ready to fall. It's close to the size of a football field and would take 6,000 dump trucks to move if it falls. Not a good place to go right now.

I spoke to one of my customers yesterday Midwest Rockfall and he said that the mountain/hill that the road is next to is moving something like 2" per day.

Will this be dog friendly as well? I may be down as long as I can take my hairy bulldog kids.

Is there camping along the South Platte behind Deckers? Up that side road? I am thinking of putting a tent on the dual sport along with a fishing pole.

Goddamnit. Who the hell keeps telling people about Guanella Pass?

My buddy who was up there this summer says its busy as all hell now. 3-4 years ago there wasn't more than a few people on horses up there on a weekend.

they blame the rains for the potentially life threatening rock slides but from the sound of things we've found the real culprit.

Buffalo Creek would be on the lower quality side of close and free campsites.

Sash, you could still hit up the camp spots we talked about (where we went a few weeks ago...)

Just head up thru Grant like you'd planned on. You just won't be able to go over the pass... ;)

so on good Authority I just found out that the pass is only closed from Georgetown to the power station ca. five miles up.
In other words the spot which I was eyeballing:crazy: is quite open and ready for action.
I'm going up Friday night to secure some prime real estate.
285 south to Grant, there you'll pick up Guanella pass and head up exactly 6.7 miles(set your trip odo) for the turn off into the camp area is easily missed and turning around on Guanella can be a bitch.
The road off Guanella going to the camp sites splits(Y'S) shortly after entering so keep right to get to the killer FREE spots.
I'll be pimpin my Gold mini van so look for that if you're coming up.
There is fishing going on for the spots are right on a stream.
Last time I was there alot of peeps were shredding quads and dirtbikes around so bring your toys or dualsports.
The pass is doable on a bike but be carefull for much of it is dirt.
anyway,
looking forward to a nice labor day camp out and hope to see some of you there.

We were at Buffalo Creek this past weekend. It will be packed. There will be no room.

It is not low quality, unless:

1. You have a tough time finding a spot.

2. You require a TV, toilet, RV pad, and a 7-11 within walking distance.

It is camping. Bring a tent, start a fire, eat drink and be merry.

It was fairly empty up in Lost Creek this past weekend... cold as all get out, but empty.

You can say that again.

If we only had control over this "Global Warming".........
