Again, big thanks to everyone who responded. It was a mess but could have been much worse.

Motorcycles can be dangerous.

Was it an R6?

Yeah all 3 bikes were R6's, however this wasn't your normal R6 tank failure. Since we are required to have tank protectors, that part actually held up perfectly. This was caused due to the tank basically being taco'd and splitting at the seam. We stood there for probably 1-2 minutes before the flames erupted.

Nice of Brown to start the BBQ early. Thankfully it looks like injury's were minor.

The heat was so intense that it melted the asphalt. I was able to pull pieces out of the track up and there were clumps of melted plastic. It was a long run from turn 4 though, missed most of the action.

Holy crap! Looks like everyone walked away, so that means it was a good crash. There were fireworks, so does that mean it was a great crash?

Holy crap! Glad you're all alright. You guys take crashing seriously, no fucking around on that one. It's sweet that the camera got it.

Maybe I shouldn't ask about the history of my 99 R6, that you once raced. I'm sure it was never crashed, right?

Sweet pics Casey!!!! Also big props to you for reacting the way you did and pulling Brownie out of there. Cornerworkers and staff also did a great job in responding and cleaning up the mess. I was wondering why Moham was racing his SV in everything else. Glad everyone made it out safely.

Did anybody hear a status update on Brownie? Thought he cracked a couple of teeth and possibly his jaw?

(He's the last bike involved in the wreck, and the one that caught on fire)

What a warhorse! :up:I don't know if I would call it a "warhorse" per se? Maybe more of a three legged dog, blind in one eye with fleas. But she's mine and she runs.

And you certainly weren't the first...:D And not the last. :banghead:
Were you the original owner?

Were you the original owner?

Nooo.... not even close.

The history as I know it:

Salvaged street bike was bought in early 02 by an older gentleman in the SE. He converted it to a track bike. He had a minor lowside and thought better of the track thing. He sold the bike to Jurgen Wimbauer in the fall of 2002 to use as Nicky's B-bike for the WERA GNF @ Road Atlanta. Nicky and Mark Nudleman (I believe) rode it in a rainy endurance race but Nicky didn't need the backup bike for the GNF sprints. I bought it from Jurgen in Nov 2002. I raced it in 2003, but a couple crashes (one pretty big) and some life changes ended that season early. I raced it 2x in 2004, took 05 off, then raced all of 06 on it.

Then I sold it to Casey and he fell off the thing every single weekend for the entire 2007 season (or so it seemed...) :D [Nevermind that he went faster on his first weekend than I'd ever gone on the thing...:banghead::banghead:]

So if I'm counting right that's what - 7 owners?

Wow Geoff, I never knew the history behind the bike. As for me....

I crashed that bike once at Pueblo.....in turn 2, 4, and 7. Then twice in turn 10. Also crashed it in turn 4, 8, and 10 at Hastings.

I can say tho, after every crash the forks and triple were replaced when needed. Til the last day, it rode straight. I think my best time was a low 1:37 at Pueblo at the end of 2007. Got me on the podium a couple times, and a 3rd place overall for the Nov GTU season.

As for Brownie, he might be banged up but we'll be riding this weekend at Miller :)

Wow, that is quite a history for such a low mileage bike that's only been ridden at weekends :)

Wow! That's crazy. Thanks for the info. I can't believe it's been around that long. Who's Nicky?

Who's Nicky?

Nicky Wimbauer (Jurgen's son) was a young gun that came up racing in the MRA, moved to WERA Nationals and last I heard was racing in Europe. Haven't heard any updates on him in a few years though, so I don't know where he's at these days.

That bike is what made me fast. When you are racing against bikes that all have more power and better suspension, you become VERY late on the brakes and VERY early on the gas.

IMO, its the only way to start out racing. Learn on the slow crap, then dominate on the faster bikes :)

Oh, and I owe some big props to Spidi Race Suits and Shark Helmets :alien:
