With Obama loaning $10billion in taxpayer money to Brazil to drill for oil (all the while telling how evil oil is) so he can pay off his financial backer (George Soros who is a major investor in the project), one can only hope that this guy falls flat on his face...

Good Lord Jim, you can actually read Fox News and not have an aneurysm? The holier than thou moral outrage tone of the story is enough to give me intestinal hemorrhaging. I suppose if you are looking for entertainment, that is a good forum. At least Mr. McCullough is nice enough to point out it is an opinion piece rather than the normal modus operandi of passing off opinion as news. And just so you know that I am not picking on Fox because it leans to the right, MSNBC is just as guilty.

Try a real news source (for example www.economist.com) - unless you are just trying to be entertained.

Haha, yep, and then you can go read the MSNBC articles and feel you are back from -10 to zero. Fox has gotten even weirder since Colmes left Hannity and they overpaid Glen Beck to see behind the curtain. Hannity is now almost as loopy as Beck, I wonder if they have crying sessions together. As much as Colmes made my skin crawl, he tempered Hannity.

I realize that this was directed at MVBrutale, but...

It is not a news article. It is an opinion piece. Keep that in mind. Further, he cites nothing. Take the example the 4billion dollar health care number - what is it, where does it come from, is it the top end of an estimate, is it even something from the current state of the bill, is it valid, is it likely, etc. Ultimately it is opinion and, as such, needs no support. Just don't read it as the Gospel, because it is intentionally skewed to make Obama look bad. The tone is one of breathless outrage, which really undercuts the believability and neutrality of the piece.

As an exercise - take this statement

"Even President Obama admitted as much, predicting that electric bill prices, in his words, would, "skyrocket." Those that have looked at the specifics tell us that the average utility bill in America will go from $167 to $307 per month, per family.

and try to verify the two claims in it.

BTW, don't take this as a defense of any of Obama's position by me. Just understand what you are reading and how it can be skewed to 1) provoke moral outrage in the necessary constituents and 2) be calculated to get the most people of the desired demographic to read it, thus pushing up the "eyes on the page" numbers to show to the advertisers. I find plenty of things about the Obama administration to worry me. I personally think (this is opinion at this point) that the Obama administration will have to re-evaluate some goals in the next 6-8 weeks. They tried to tackle health care against a very rich lobby with inadequate political capital in the middle of a severe economic downturn. That is pretty poor politicking. I don't think they will "implode" which is what the intended demographic for this piece is hoping for.

As an op/ed piece, it certainly works for it's intended purpose: to get people to evaluate and decide, rather than accept what the .gov feeds to us as "facts", which in many ways are equally unsupported opinions and estimates.

The fact that the health care reform debate to this point has not even really touched on tort law reform really burns me, since more than 10% of US healthcare costs go to cover litigation (http://www.sickoflawsuits.org/threats/HealthcareUnderAttack.cfm). Of course, a large percentage of our elected officials are lawyers(including the President), so this is no surprise.

Woohoo, Jim! Giving the citation.

I agree the "facts" that come out of the government are skewed too. The op-ed piece is originally intended to get us to evaluate, but I don't think it fits its purpose anymore, especially from some media outlets such as Fox News or MSNBC. They are simply too skewed from facts and too reluctant to concede the other side may have a valid point. I prefer my information to come from politically neutral source that say "On the one hand... and on the other hand ..." Too many people are basing too many important decisions on too little reliable information.

And don't get me started on Tort reform. You and I would probably have a little love fest and it would embarrass everyone here.

Just to play your game:

Obama on energy costs skyrocketing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4

Factcheck on the cap-and-trade scheme:
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/cap-and-trade-cost-inflation/
CBO numbers $700-2,200 per household increase.
Heritage Foundation: $1,500 a year
EPA: $98-140 (which is almost laughable, but there it is)

All the estimates say one thing, your costs go up for a flawed scientific boondoggle. And those are just direct costs. Everything in your life will increase in costs since companies need energy to make things you buy, and will pass on their increase in costs to you.

Great paper on the "science" behind the CO2 emissions being the culprit behind the global warming nonsense:

http://meteo.lcd.lu/globalwarming/Monckton/apocalypse_cancelled.pdf

Please don't take anything I just said to mean that I think Obama and his administration are a bunch of misguided, uninformed, power-crazed buffoons. Nor that I think global warming (based on man made CO2 emissions) is nothing more then a scheme by which to make certain people very, very rich at the expense of everyone else.

Unfortunately, you can't read. I am not taking a political position. I am saying check the facts that one chooses to believe. My position is that one should check all the facts that one thinks are correct, not just parrot them. Shea checked the two facts in my post. You simply rant. Shea sounds like a conservative. You sound like an emotional reactionary. I am not defending Obama - I actually disagree with most of the policy agenda he is putting forward. I am saying be careful about where you get your information from. If you continue to assume that I am trying to defend Obama, then you sorely miss the point or you are intentionally being a douche bag.

Oh, and I was talking about citations for what you claimed in your post

Obama doesn't have a birth cert. and I was just relating to your position more than Shea's because I was just spewing whatever came to mind. I guess if that makes me a duesche than thanks for naming it. Does that help your position any? [shrug]

If I find 2 citations for my position that directly contradics what you were "not parroting" would that help your personal dogma? Or would you go back to your bag of tricks and start the emotional non relevant name calling?

Now that I'm back to this......I just get really annoyed by people who consider FOXNEWS as somehow different from the other news sources. Filo is correct when he states that any writer or news agency can skew an article. Many have gotten so used to hearing the liberal perspective that another viewpoint seems strange and evil to them. People think that NBC, CBS, or ABC don't slant? ha.
The fact that this piece is written for FOXnews changes nothing about it, except for its skew. There is little that I see in it that is unfair for an op/ed piece. ...and thank you FiLO for the reminder to READ and understand. I am a Reading Specialist in a middle school and as such hope that I can read. That fact that I am in agreement with much of it is besides the point.

Cool. I'm traveling a bit this month... maybe we could plan on the last weekend of the month. I shoot ya a PM. All I have is my Benelli 12ga right now and have no idea where my clay thrower is. Might just have to go buy a new one, unless you have one of the springers.

I think a fight ends when a Benelli comes out cause they are so bad ass. But if that's all you got bring it. I have a Winchester Defender mod. 1300 cir 1992 and a Remington 870 duck gun. They serve me well.
