I think someone over the weekend was responsible for this, Barn. I can't remember which casino we were in, but some Swayze started playing and someone asked if he was still alive. oops.

I think that may have been Jim. I remember the chat, and I knew he was still living at the time, but I guess none of us knew that things were this bad. :dunno:

Still though... sad.

You're a girl, you have to say that.

That being said, I think it's actually good that he died. He had a very rare and very painful form of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic Cancer (http://www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/news/20090915/patrick-swayze-dies-of-pancreatic-cancer)

RIP, Mr. Swayze, you deserve it.

Besides chemotherapy, Swayze took an experimental drug called vatalanib. What does that drug do?

Vatalanib inhibits tyrosine kinases, which are enzymes needed for cell growth, cell proliferation, and cell differentiation.
DNA replication inhibitor?
Our bodies replace approximately 300 billion cells a day by having approximately 300 billion cells die.
Sounds like a crappy wonder drug, again.

PS is externally complete.

RIP Jed.
The news said he was best known for his roll in Dirty Dancing. Yeah right. I never watched that all the way thru. I knew him for Red Dawn and Road House not some obscure movie like Dirty Dancing.

Dirty Dancing was definitely one of his breakout performances, if not thee one. I think he shared the screen with too many other stars at the time to really be primarily remembered for Red Dawn.

But if you ask me... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_(film))

Yeah he did a lot of demanding rolls. Demi Moore was the hardest one I think. Sharing a body with Whoopie in the same movie must have put him over the top. But my point was that Dirty Dancing (while the best movie of all time for gay guys and my sister) he did a lot of different movies that other people hold in higher regards.

I didn't ask but thanks for sharing. You are now forever written in stone for remembering him.

I was never a huge Swazy fan, but like any red blooded teenage male in the 80's, I thought Red Dawn was awesome. If Roadhouse was on (and VH-1 tends to play it a lot) I still will stop and watch just for the comedic value. Lets not forget Black Dog. Ladies always remember Ghost and Dirty dancing which realy just underscores his appeal as an actor

Swazye could have very easily turned into a 80's superstar punchline, but his refusal to take himself seriously (i.e the Chippendale's skit) ensured his enduring career. I never saw the last show he did, but it was supposed to be amazing.

Whats more is he gave up, he never got bitter, and he never quit fighting. I enjoyed his work in life, but I think they way he faced death is a lesson we can all learn from.

RIP PS

Well that's a relief. How could he die with his insurance?
The world needs peanut farmers.

I forgot about "The Outsiders" although not my favorite it makes me miss the summer time.
