Damn Brian..... I'm sorry man.

I would suggest getting your unemployment paperwork rolling ASAP. You pay into it while you're working, so have it pay you back, while you're looking.

Sorry to hear that you lost your job. It happens to everyone. But don't waste time taking a personal day. Start looking for another job while you still have your mojo.

And then go for a ride and clear out the pipes.

How does the unemployment work? I got a couple weeks notice with pay coming where I believe I'm still considered an employee. I also got a severance package so when can I even file?

You can file now, but you'll just be asked about severance pay. You'll inter the time that you will continue to get paid and your unemployment benefits will start after.

His last day is at the end of his pay. If his severance pay is for, say, 1 month, then he is eligible for UEM at then end of that month, but can apply now. It takes 4-6 weeks to process the appication, send papers to him for signatures and to send back.

I worked for Weyerhaeuser, which is the largest forest products company in the world.

They are directly tied to the construction industry and they've been bleeding cash like no tomorrow for the last two years. They've been shuttering plants and laying off people all over the place and finally hit the software group. They're dropping 30% of the staff.

Yeah, and since we just moved the rest of my wife's stuff out of her parents house, we've got a ton of shit to get rid of that hasn't been used in years. I see a garage sale in my future...

Ditto. Except they have a "waiting week" after all your severance/vacation/etc pay ends that you don't get paid for. So if you have 8 weeks of pay left, you'll start getting unemployment after 9 weeks. But yes, start asap because it does take a while to get it all in order.

He sleeps all night and he works all day...

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch, I go to the lavat'ry.
On Wednesdays I go shopping, and have buttered scones for tea.

He cuts down trees...
He's a lumberjack...

I cut down trees, I skip and jump, I love to press wild flow'rs
I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars

He cuts down trees...

I cut down trees, I wear high heels, Suspenders and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear papa...

Didn't think it would happen, but I'm the latest casualty of the recession.

Wow, total shock...

So now what do you do?
Sorry to hear it man. Best of luck. Make sure you file immediately, and make ZERO mistakes. I never did get any unemployment, and they never even inform you that something's not filled out right or whatever, and don't waste time trying to call. Go down to Denver to the office.

My last day was two weeks ago. I just was paid salary until yesterday. Plus commissions Plus 50 hours of vacation time.

Oprah blows......i"m just sayin..:)

I ride every day now. One or two hours in the morning. It's my wake me up in the morning time.

Then coffee.

Then self sex (very important time here)
Wow! Very sorry to hear that Terri. Been there, done that.....sorta still doing it. I don't know what's worse, being out of work in CO or living the way I have to up here. But, at least it's working.

I don't even have a coffee maker so I can't even have a cup before my self sex.....:(

Best of luck darlin'.:)

You can now collect unemployment while going to school. It doesn't pay tuition but at least it covers some bills without having to work part time delivering pizza.

Sorry to hear that Brian (and Terri, but we already talked). I've been un-employed for a while now so I know what that means:

Daytime TV sucks, whether you have 500 channels or 5.
Find something to do that doesn't cost money.
Network. Network. Network.
Yeah, the economy is picking up a little, but it's not running full steam yet. Have fun while you can.

PM me for my number. We can ride or something while the weather's still cooperating.

I was a software development lead/project manager. I managed a team of 11 developers and wrote a little bit of code myself.

B-

Sorry about the job loss man.

Worth looking at?

Good job security and benefits, but in most cases the pay won't be as good as what you can get in the civilian sector.
