First and foremost: One that fits. After that it's personal preference on graphics, weight, and features. My latest is a KBC Airborne S from a few years ago. I am looking for something else in that theme to replace it.

I think the most important feature is going to be the shell material. Go with something that is a carbon shell, not the cheap plastic ones. Next, once you find a good brand then try different styles for one that fits good.

Several good brands that offer different head-shape options:

Shark (my personal favorite due to shape fitting)
Aria
Vemar
etc....

I've always been partial to Shoei, but I'm in the market for a new lid too, so I'm open to suggestions.

I'm not due for a new one but am always looking at other brands... It's hard to get the right fit helmet with my cochlear implants...

Arai...they seem to fit my head better than other brands.
I just purchased the Corsiar V about a month ago.

I know there is a big debate on helmets as you can get a SNELL/DOT for $150 and up to $800.00...and I'm a firm believer in what you pay for is what you get.

Scorpion right now. I have an old KBC too, but the Scorp is lighter. I've been looking for another brand that has a similar fit, so if anyone knows which brands have that same shape it might help save me a few trips. I already know HJC doesn't fit right, but don't know about some of the others yet.

Ever seen a banana show in Amsterdam?

I didn't realize until I chopped my hippy-ish hair off during the summer that the Icon fits my head a little awkward, but it's still doable and comfortable. Really, as will be said 100120123123 times, it's all about what fits you.

My head has always fit best in a Shoei helmet. AGV is a close second.

They are both fairly light, have good noise reduction in my experience, removable liners, and give me a sense of quality product for the price. My head is worth the extra money IMO.

As long as it is Snell aproved and fits well, anything is fair game. I am currently wearing a Scorion EXO700. Works well, ventilation is great for the hot days and graphics are good.

HJC's are relativley inexpensive, get good reviews and fit my head well...my suomy fits like a glove and is light, buts its loud, so I rarely wear it on longer trips...my next one will be a rf-1100 most likely, as I like the fit of the shoei's as well.

I had a shoei.... about 10 years back. Great helmet... but now I have kids and the $$$ isn't there for a $400+ helmet haha.

I'm more for function than I am about anything else. I've been using a Scorpion Exo-1000 for about a month now, and I love it. It's heavier than most helmets, but also has more features than any other helmet. I just like that I NEVER have to change shields.

I like the most expensive, colorful, newest helmet that no one else has.

Don't care what brand it is.

Helmet? They cost too much to buy one. So i just ride without it. But i do wear a baseball hat backward and some cool sunglasses. Or i'll wear one of these when i go carve the canyons at triple digits.

I recently did the helmet shopping thing. I found the only thing that fit my head were a Shoei X-11 and the Scorpion EXO-700. Then the X-12 wheeling and dealing started so I ordered an X-12 (supposed to fit the same as an X-11). Pricey, but it ended up being Rae's 20th anniversary present to me. I just gotta wait for it. :(

Arai - no contest
Shoei has made great strides and if it fits you - fine
but the replacable liners , ventilation and quality
along with the best safe helmet (bar none) it has to be an Arai

if you want looks and do not care about fit, finish, ventilation and safety
get any helmet
icon, hjc or ???

AGV Stealth. Its the only helmet I've ever owned. I've worn HJC, KBC, and Scorpion but liked the weight, ventilation and price of the AGV.

I have had shark rsi hologram and an icon airframe. The shark helmet was absolutely a sickening helmet with a great fit and a genius/simple shield system, and was extremely light.

The icon was the 2009 helmet. It was gorgeous helmet but had some issues. The inner liner was held in by plastic dots that never held properly. The forehead liner was just pressed in, and when I moved the helmet around when it was on would fall down into my line of sight which caused some major issues. And dont even get me started on the visor removal/install system, I hope the retard who designed this got shot, In the 6 months I had it I had to replace the side plates 7 times, even when "performance" put them on they would damage them, very disappointed.

haha...kind of what I was getting at...

to be honest I was very dissapointed with the finish and harware quality on the higher end helmets (suomy and arai specifically) I felt like I was going to snap the vents off when I was trying them on

After recently seeing Bob's collection of used scopions and HJC's, I have a renewed faith in helmets that don't retail for $800
