Looking for a nice place to eat for a romantic dinner tonight. Looking to stay in Westminster/Thorton/Arvada-ish. Will go further, but it would be best closer. Would like to keep it under $40/plate. Just want a good atmosphere and tasty food.

Any tips?

I was just remembering Le Central today. It means something like common French Food, but it's dam good!!!!

Oh yeah, what about Carmines on Penn????????

It's located downtown Denver. With a $40/plate charge max, there would be plenty of room to include the wine with their prices!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I get to eat in phoenix are Tacos & Burritos!!!!

You used to live in Boulder right Sean? John's restaurant on Pearl is fantastic. Very cozy / romantic and the food is to die for. You need reservations though. I haven't been there in a 3-4 years, but I imagine it's still good.

The Foie Gras and the Filet Mignon was exquisite.

I highly recommend this place for a great romantic dinner.

You are not too far away from Casa Bonita.I'm plenty far away from C/B. But if we go, it's not to far away from Alibi's?

These are great ideas! And yes, I'm ignoring the usual hooters/shotguns comments.

Home made Caesar salad with or without anchovies
A small lime sorbet pallet cleanser
Steak Dianne with brandy/mushroom/shallot reduction
Garlic Ranch smashed spuds
Broccoli and cauliflower with some lemon pepper, steamed
Bananas Foster for desert.

Served with a Cabernet Sauvignion Blanc with dinner and a Barrows 20 year Tawney Port after desert.

Do it, it is easy and you will LOVE it! If you want recipes and help, let me know.

Red Square Bistro in Writer's Square downtown is really really good! It's Russian food which will be good on a cool day like today. We usually split the dumplings as an apetizer, split the stroganoff as an entre, and split a bottle of wine as well. Usually rolls in around $75 after tip. By the way, the stroganoff sports the best steak I may have had anywhere in my life. When you think stroganoff, you don't usually think of a whole steak, but this will change that much for the better!

(also, if you like vodka, they've got some damn good infused vodkas there! )

Also, a good date that Lindsey & I like is to have drinks at the bar near the top of the Hyatt downtown and then walk to Red Square. The Hyatt bar is a little pricey, but the views of the city and the mountains are absolutely worth it!

Trust me on Red Square, mang! Lindsey's & my first official date was Hyatt for drinks, Red Square for dinner & she's been with me for a year & a half and counting. If you're just going for dinner, I'd stay away from the vodka. If you're hang'n out & drink'n afterwards, then get a craffe. They're around $30 and those things are damn good...aaand damn dangerous like your friend said!

Whatever ya choose, have a good nite with a great lady & congrats on the year mang!

There is a really nice restaurant with more hearty food on Larimer Street called The Capital Grille. Their food is great. They serve a variety of foods, but are a bit more pricy. http://www.thecapitalgrille.com/About/main.asp

If you're ok with small plates (i.e. tappas) and good wine, check out The Ninth Door on Blake Street downtown. They primarily serve Tappas: http://www.theninthdoor.com/main.html

Here are some other of my recommendations in the Denver area: Duo (Contemporary), Deluxe (contemporary), Briarwood Inn (Golden - Classical), or the Flagstaff in Boulder, although the latter is a touch pricey.

Morton's.

It's not an "up North" place, and you'll likely exceed your $40/per spending hopes, but everytime I go there, it's a memorable experience. Top-shelf everything, at that place.

Maybe we just had a ringer of a bad night, but it's just one of those things were your drop $130+ for a dinner for 2, and it just didn't live up to the bill.

We ordered what appeared to be (on paper) a good portioned meal for two, and we *maybe* had two drinks each. I can't speak for her, but I left hungry and with no particular buzz, and that's just not supposed to happen for that kind of pricetag. The service I remember was unremarkable, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Either way, when you compare that kind of $$ with something equitable like say Morton's, it's a joke. I don't think I've ever even finished all my dishes at Morton's, much-less ever considered leaving hungry!

And yes, there are people out there, who are maybe willing to pay a particular premium for "the atmosphere". And whether or not I'm one of those people, it surely will not be at the expense of the actual meal itself. I'd rather get full at The Cheesecake Factory and drop a couple bucks on the 16th Street "locals", than have intimacy and uniqueness, but leave craving a Big-Mac. :dunno:

The Melting Pot is BY FAR my favorite fancy-date-dinner-place!!! The one in Littleton is MUCH better than the one up north! Much better atmosphere and service. It can get pretty expensive but I think it's way worth it for a nice occassion. The times I went, we got the 4-course meal option for $75 (salad, fondue, main course incl. veggies, and dessert - serves 2 ppl) and it ended up being about $110-120, as long as we kept the drinks cheap. I didn't like the north location near as much.
