I have a Samsung LCD that has gone dark.

After many months of research I have discovered what may be the cause:

It seems the cheapo Caps installed go bad very easily on these and need to be replaced.

It looks like there are 6 caps that need to be replaced. Here is a top and bottom view of the board.

You can see the caps. They do not look bad, they are not bulged or deformed but these have been the culprit nearly 100% of the time with this LCD

3 x 330uf 25v caps

2 x 820uF 25v caps

1 x 47uF 50v cap

Anyone got the skillz to pay da billz? I am not in a huge hurry and I will of course pay for your work :)

Thanks!

If that's all it is I can help ya out. Obviously if that doesn't fix it then there isn't much else I can do, but soldering new ones on is easy. Are you going to order the new ones, or... ?

I too can solder them for ya. If we can find a schematic on the web I could help you diagnose it first as well to see if it really is the caps. PM me if you want my assistance.

Alex.

I'm also handy with a soldering iron if you need another.

I can do it if needed. I guess I'm #4 in the helper queue.

I'll be #5 in the queue. I am, of course, fully RoHS certified and have a nice FPGA/LLP rework machine. And, on the plus side, you can bring up the board when you drop off my new Hawk... or did you already sell that out from under me.

Is the TV doing the flashy thing mentioned in that link, or is it just on but dark?

I used to do laptop repair and about once a week I'd have to replace backlight inverters on LCDs when the screens went dark. It was a quick fix and a somewhat common issue. From what I understand LCD TVs work in basically the same manner.

Sounds like you are surrounded by nerds, Dana.

It turns on then about 5 seconds later turns off. It is not the back lighting, I tested the LCD with another board that had been repaired and it worked fine. :)
