Trail by Ward?

If you're going up Lefthand Canyon then left on the road up to Ward, before Ward, there's a big square parking area on the very left. On the other side of the road I saw two guys on bikes that seemed to be coming off a half ass trail. I didn't catch any trail signage as we were going by though. Is this really a trail? If not, then I guess they were just putzn around.
