This will be about a three month contract with "some" possibility to extend. I think this is a get in and get out kinda deal for this particular opening.

Application Developer worker for Analysis Center to support in the development of input and geospatial data management tools in a team-oriented environment. Worker is to be familiar with a variety of web-development tools, environments, and procedures.

Tasks:
This is a junior to mid-level software engineer position that will work under the direction of a technical team to develop web-based “rich internet applications” that focus on delivering rich geo-spatial information to users.

The position will involve rapid prototyping to explore different technologies and approaches to the core problem. Once a successful prototype solution is identified, the Application Developer will build and deploy a similar production-quality solution.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, geography or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and client service skills. Three years of relevant experience developing front-end web applications for data analysis, user management, content management and community development. Working knowledge and experience using:
· Working with a JavaScript frameworks (such as ExtJS, JQuery, or Dojo)
· Open source software to develop web-based systems
· Web Service API Knowledge (RESTful Services)
· Multiple programming and scripting languages (such as JavaScript, PHP, Python)
· Knowledge of database programming, including SQL

Preferred: Experience with web based mapping technologies (Google Maps, Open Layers). Familiarity with “Web 2.0” concepts such as Blogs and Wikis. Experience developing, testing, and implementing new applications. Experience working in technical R&D environment. Knowledge of alternative energy technologies, industries, and issues, and ability to maintain knowledge as technology changes. Strong initiative and ability to research, learn, and apply new Internet tools and practices.
