Maxim makes a product called "Chain Guard" that I really like. If I remember correctly, it's an entirely synth. lube.

It also does not require any of the "heat up/set up" process that their Chain Wax needs.

Clean Chain.
Spray Chain.
Done.

You will always find plenty of suggestions around here.

I like Honda Pro Chain Lube (red can).

DR,

Why no WD40?

The only reason (factual reason) that I've found not to use WD40 is that it's too light and needs to be applied after every ride.

Just curious...

Nope. Wive's tale. Proof upon request.

I failed to answer the original question.

For a track bike I'd use the heaviest, stickiest lube you can find.

PJ Wax or the like. Something that'll stay on through the abuse and heat.

IMO

Whatever, if there is a chance of it why use it? I don't have proof nor do I care to find it. Too many people have stated it deteriorates the rubber so whether it is fact or not there are other products that are safe that do as good or better job. It is a dirt magnet besides. O ring chains are prelubed anyway so you are just tryto keep contact surfaces relativly clean with a slight amount of lubrication to cut down friction. That is why I use chain wax, it doesnt attract much dirt and the sling off is minimal.

I wouldn't use WD-40. Chain manufacturers themselves don't endorse or recommend it's use for cleaning or lubing. I figure they know their product the best.

For better or worse, I clean with kerosene and then lube with Silkolene O-ring chain lube. So far so good. 8)

How many miles should you get out of a chain and sprocket on say and R1? Track use and street use.

I'd like to know how much on average. I've got 12,xxx miles on my 03 gix 600, chain and sprocket.

It would be directly proportional to maintenance and riding style.
