Hmm... I'm not normally one to pay much attention to the controversial/political commentary movies, but the images of Reagan and Obama in the boxing ring just crack me up for some goofy ass reason.

Anyway...while it's still not enough to convince me to pay $10 to see the film, I'll be interested in seeing the reaction to it - particularly from the likes of Michael Moore and such.

The filmmaker was interviewed by Reason. In it, the interviewer pointed out, correctly, that there is a lot of blame to spread around to both Democrats and Republicans for the debt and deficit. Griggs says he's right, and that he goes after GWB for increasing spending while cutting taxes. But at the same time, he's holding Reagan out as some sort of example of fiscal responsibility, which is garbage.

Reagan very significantly increased public expenditure, primarily the Department of Defense, which rose (in constant 2000 dollars) from $267.1 billion in 1980 (4.9% of GDP and 22.7% of public expenditure) to $393.1 billion in 1988 (5.8% of GDP and 27.3% of public expenditure); most of those years military spending was about 6% of GDP, exceeding this numbers in 4 different years. All these numbers had not been seen since the end of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War) in 1973.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-13) In 1981, Reagan significantly reduced the maximum tax rate, which affected the very wealthy, and lowered the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 50%; in 1986 he further reduced the rate to 28%.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-14) As a result of all this, the budget deficit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budget_deficit) and federal debt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_debt) increased considerably: debt grew from 33.3% of GDP in 1980 to 51.9% at the end of 1988 [16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-15) and the deficit increased from 2.7% in 1980 to more than double in 1983, when it reached 6%; in 1984, 1985 and 1986 it was around 5%.[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-16) In order to cover new federal budget deficits, the United States borrowed heavily both domestically and abroad, raising the national debt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt) from $700 billion to $3 trillion,[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-Cannon128-17) and the United States moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the world's largest debtor nation.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-U.S._Debt-18) Reagan described the new debt as the "greatest disappointment" of his presidency.[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaganomics#cite_note-Cannon128-17)

show me a (real) conservative who isn't for forcing a religious agenda on me, forcing the country to pay for unpopular wars outside of our borders, or politicizing practical issues for the sole purpose of political maneuvering (despite the fact that this might be bad for the country), and you've shown me someone I can actually vote for.

I get it, people don't like the spending, I don't either. However, what I like less than that is having to choose between an idiot spouting on about fiscal responsibility and "less government" when it has been proven that he/she is devoted to neither, and an idiot with a spending problem who doesn't understand simple math. No amount of bullshit propaganda will make that ever sharpening double edged sword less of a problem.

Besides, if you're going to try to fairly compare Reagan to a democrat, Obama is NOT a fair comparison. It's like comparing W to Clinton.

/raises hand

Though, since I'm not a "social issues" guy, I can't technically call myself a "conservative". I think Silva calls me a "Jeffersonian Libertarian Nazi" :)

Check this guy out. Former aide to Reagan, but against most of what the Republicans AND Democrats have done to the country.

Pretty common sense message. The money the government spent isn't pulled out of thin air. it's amazing how the new republican party and the democrats have duped people into thinking that is somehow not the case. I guess people are more likely to vote for you if you don't ever tell them the hard truth.
