Ok, so according to this article (http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Federal/Read.aspx?id=6088) Amtrack is relaxing their restrictions to allow transportation of firearms on SOME routes (only those routes between stations that both have checked baggage capability). I've never traveled by train so it never occurred to me to find out if I would be allowed to take a gun...

This means that as of right now, and still to some extent after the change takes place, it's easier to take your gun with you on a plane than it is on a train....

WHY? Even if I had my glock in my waistband, what am I gonna do - hijack the train? And do what with it? Don't tell me that Amtrack can't make the engineer's cabin 100%, totally, completely, absolutely bulletproof. The only reason they don't do it with planes is the weight factor, plus the fact that a gun can do a lot of harm to a plane without it's owner gaining access to the cockpit. Shooting out the windows of a train, even at 100+ MPH, isn't gonna do a lot of harm.

So, what am I missing? Or is this just a result of the fact that traveling by rail is much more popular in the NE where attitudes are generally more liberal regarding firearms?

:wtf:
