So you're saying that until now, Dirk had lost his bearings?

Nah, his bearings were just off a bit.

His bearings were just ground down.
They look like the tunnel rats down here.
No Alien infestation that we have noticed yet.

Scary huh, they let someone like me this close to an expensive piece of equipment like that.

Best. Movie. Ever. Just re-released on BluRay. I actually brought it out to Iraq with me...

They're making a sequel(prequel), with the new Transformers chick as the lead. The really skinny blonde one. Needless to say, I am dissapoint.

They're also redoing The Fog and They Live. John Carpenter was the shizz back in his day. I hate Hollywood. :(

We actually did have an optical telescope down there back in the 80's (South Pole Optical Telescope, SPOT) and I did some work on atmospheric extinction with it. It was mainly an engineering experiment but we did get some science out of it.The main problem for optical telescopes there is the interference from noctilucent clouds. They don't bother microwave telescopes like the SPT in Randall's photo. Here was an early iteration of SPOT:

Not quite the same budget level as SPT. :)
