View Full Version : Saturday ride

Myself and a friend are planning on going for a ride (hes on a 750 shadow :eyebrows:). No route or time planned as of yet but I've invited other clubs (including sports cars) to join in and discuss. We are riding regardless of who comes out. Just thought we'd invite others to join in and enjoy the rare weather we seem to be getting quite frequently these days despite the time of year.

Anyway, post up any thoughts or ideas.

Can't make this but run down 105 to Monument, it's pretty clean these days except for the usual sand in the tight corners before Palmer Lake.

Ok guys. Thanks for the suggestion asp. I've done it a long time ago when I was still rocking a Trans Am at the time so lets see how it pans out.

Tentative route right now.

Thinking 10:30AM meet time.

And because I suck at google maps, here's what I'm thinking:
Meet at Chatfield State Park most likely in the closest to Wadsworth Lot. Drive through to Titan and on to Sante Fe. Stop for gas food pee etc in Sedalia. Continue to 105 to Palmer Lake. Cross the highway and back up 83 to Franktown. Its about 100 miles total. Nothing outrageously long yet still worth the drive. It's great scenery and some good winding roads to play on. Most of it is 2 lane county roads but its still a blast.

We're supposed to get MAYBE an inch according to Kathy Sabine (totally trustworthy source :P). Assuming that we don't get hammered, the roads should be plenty clear by Saturday.

We're still on assuming the roads are clear by saturday. If not I'm pushing this back to next saturday.

Time: 22 January · 10:30 - 13:30
Location: Chatfield State Park
Created by: Rob Swift Evans (http://www.facebook.com/AlpineSwift)
More info:
Several local clubs including LeftLaneLife, E90Post, Metrodubs and Colorado Sport Bike Club have been invited to join in on this event.
Here's the route. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=CO-121+S%2FS+Platte+Canyon+Rd%2FS+Wadsworth+Blvd&daddr=W+Titan+Rd+to%3AManhart+St+to%3ACO-105+E+to%3ACO-83+N+to%3ACO-83+N&geocode=FUZ6WwId2n68-Q%3BFarVWgIduvy8-Q%3BFcDAWQIdHma--Q%3BFcoEVQIdWDK_-Q%3BFQMmVwIdAA_C-Q%3BFRoNWQIdppnB-Q&hl=en&mra=mi&mrcr=4&mrsp=5&sz=12&sll=39.366156%2C-104.791031&sspn=0.144922%2C0.258522&ie=UTF8&ll=39.366156%2C-104.790344&spn=0.579689%2C1.034088&z=10

We'll stop in Sedalia for bathroom/gas/food before pressing on to Palmer Lake (maybe stop for photos if there is a general consensus to do so) and Franktown (Shell station off main road) Where we'll decide on lunch. It's about a 100 miles and it doesn't matter if you wanna ride or drive. Look forward to seeing you out there.

Look forward to seeing people there!

Unfortunately I will not be attending tomorrow as I had an issue arise today while riding. Bike is in for service and should be running again (most likely) by late tomorrow.

Anyone still planning to go can still go obviously. Just know that I will not be there. Sorry to drop this last minute but I don't really have much of a choice.

Read your post on FB. Bad news about the bike. Glad there wasn't TOO much damage to the bike :(

I'm very fortunate and count my blessings it wasn't worse than it was. I'm still in one piece thanks to my phone stopping the handle bar digging into my leg.

I got the bike back today and even had the pinion seals replaced so all maintenance is current. The clutch just had air in the line from the bolt coming loose after the impact so it just needed to be bled. I'm still amazed at how tough this bike is to take the impact I had. A lightly scratched magnesium engine cover and a busted up front fender is an extremely small price to pay for some lady's bone headed fuckin maneuver. I'm gonna work on the cover tomorrow to see if I can salvage it. Was thinking of respraying them anyway so this might work out to my benefit. I'm definitely gonna have to look into some guards for them though just to be on the safe side. The fender is gonna have to wait until beemer boneyard lets me know when they have one in stock again. I can still run on the one I've got right now so I'm not real worried about it.

So, are we going to get to hear this story? What happened? Are you alright?

Short version? I was in a merge lane behind some pos hyundai. She went (or so I thought) after finding her gap. I looked back to find mine, started to go, looked forward she was completely stopped 2 feet in front of me. I bumped her bumper and went down. Low speed drop basically. I'm fine thanks to my phone acting the part of a handlebar proof vest. She didnt have any damage so she said "What are you doing?" all flustered and pissed off, then made sure I was ok, then left. No police, no insurance, etc. It was just a really dumb fuckin accident that shouldn't have happened.

I didn't get a shot of the cover before I painted it. It was silver coated like the rest of the engine and fairly scraped up.

Note that the front fender is cracked near the clear bra and at the back where it looks like there is paint missing. That's actually a piece of plastic that broke off.

And yeah I know about the seat, probably gonna get reupholstered this spring.
