Ok, so based on this video, I'm thinking the 44 magnum is the way to go.

It would have been better with watermelons, R Lee Ermey style.

Back in my school days, I emptied a clip of 9mm ball ammo into a big hard back school book. I could barely notice the damage. I took my buddies 44 and shot it with one round and the book basically exploded.

Those kind of demos have always puzzled me. Would he get the same results if he was farther away? I've shot everything from steel plates to propane cylinders with my .308 and it just "pencil holes" everything.

BTW - Propane cylinders will not explode when you shoot them. Very disappointing, but true. If you shoot them with "tracer" rounds, well... that's a whole different story! They still don't explode, though.

I took a 12 gauge, 4 oz steel shot and fired it at a flat panel LCD. Nothing, just fell over and cracked the glass and most of shot bounced back at me and scattered over the awning, etc. Pulled out a 3" magnum slug and the monitor didn't flinch, a giant hole just appeared in it, clean as a whistle. This was from maybe 20-25 feet.

no, some of that damage was from the overpressure of the muzzle blast.
