I just found this adventure race and am planning on entering. I'm not going to be in it to win it. I more or less think it would be fun to do. Here are some details:

Date: 4/23/2011

Venue: Monument, CO to Colorado Springs, CO
Lodging available - See Race Updates for more info

Race Length: 6 hr race with 9 hr cutoff

Race Distance: Approximately 30-40 miles

Events:
Mountain Biking, Running/Trekking, Orienteering, Ropes Challenges (choose between a zipline, rappel, or tyrolean traverse), Low Ropes Challenges, Special Team Challenges

Gear Format: Expedition Style (no transition areas), no support
crew Divisions: 3-4 Coed, 2 Open, 2 Coed, Solo Male, Solo Female, Large Group and Family (4+ open and 5+ coed)

Check-In &
Pre-Race Meeting:
Check-in opens at 6AM. Mandatory pre-race meeting at 7AM sharp! Post-Race Party & SWAG Raffle: 6PM to 8PM




Mountain Biking Approximately 25 to 35 miles

Running/Trekking Approximately 4-10 miles

Orienteering Use of map and compass; Very minimal UTM checkpoint plotting. If you are new to UTM we can check your points and provide help.

Low Ropes Challenges No special skills or preparation needed. These are just some fun, safe challenges.

Choice Between:

Zipline - Lose elevation quickly using a cable and a pulley
Rappel - Descend a cliff using a rope
Secret Challenges No preparation necessary




Personal Equipment
Mountain Bike (no cyclocross bikes)




Bike Helmet
One Spare Inner Tube
Biking Gloves
Climbing Harness - UIAA Approved
2 Locking Carabiners
Belay Device (ATC or Figure 8)
Hydration System (2 liters minimum)
Emergency Blanket
Team Equipment





2 Compasses
Bike Tire Inflation system (pump, CO2)
Bike Repair Tool
First Aid Kit containing at minimum the following:

2 4"x4" gauze pades
Small roll of 1/2" medical or duct tape
3" Ace Bandage
8 anti-inflammatory tablets (Ibprofen or similar)

One fully charged cell phone in a waterproof enclosure (zip bag ok)
Camera

When choosing a camera system, select a system capable of quickly and easily providing pictures to the race officials using a PC
Standalone Digital Camera preferred
Cell phone with a built-in camera is acceptable provided there is a way to share the photos with the race officials
Disposable camera is acceptable with an additional fee for development

$60 isn't bad....I may have to consider this. :up:

It's nice that you can choose between zipline and rappel. I have no desire to rappel!

No, I've never rappeled. I don't like drop offs. Maybe I should give it a go, but I have very little desire. I did zipline stuff in Costa Rica and it turned out to be okay.
