The thread by spdu4ia got me thinking about some off-roading. Are there other members here who do some non-rockclimbing trips? I've got a stock '93 4Runner with 31's but haven't done anything except for one trail near Grand Lake. Would other members be interested in some day trips?

Totally... It's been a long time since I've gone, but I just lifted my 95 Tacoma over the winter and put 33's on it, so it's ready to see some trails. There are some roads on the way into Winter Park that are pretty good light 4x4 that I haven't been on in a few years. I'd love to know of more places. Love getting out in the woods on a nice day to just chill and let the dogs run.

Possibly. Not a huge fan of shelf roads with bottomless pits next to them (like some parts of switzerland trail) but otherwise I'm game.

I've got plenty of recovery gear too for when us stock rides get someplace we shouldn't be.

Alan,

There are a ton of good 4x trails just up above Central City...nothing to serious, but some fun slow stuff and some really great views. You can also get to them from Alice and Rollinsville. I don't 4x in my truck, but we take the quads up there all summer long.

I'm up for light duty. Don't want to massacre the daily driver, but I do like going 4x4.

How about a day trip either 4/16 or 4/17? If any of you know of a good trail I'd be happy to work on the planning for this: meeting place/time/etc.

I rode some atvs for my birthday last weekend off of hwy 7 down the road from estes next to bounce school road. there was a ton of people wheeling in mostly stock rigs up in the snow that is left up there, it looked like fun, but was easier on a 4x4 atv. might be worth checking out.

I'd love to go 4x4 with the WR in the bed. Then I can have the best of both worlds!

Or Moab :)
My truck is too low and long to do much off road, but I like to take the wife to see a little bit of the scenery we see on the bikes.

Ah Moab... that's one place I need to get to badly this year. We were going to go last year, then it snowed in the mountains ruining our trip, and that weekend I broke my ankle rendering me useless for the rest of the summer. I will not let it happen again.

middle st vrain and coney flats is a nice little trail. There is another going up the Moffet road that ends up coming out at yankee doodle lake.

I used to have a '64 cj5 all stock including tires and 4 cyl engine. It was more than capable, just a little slow getting up there.

Theres a nice trail system that connects between Idaho Springs and Lake George. I spend a bit of time up there in the summer. It probably still has a bit too much snow to get too far back right now, but should be good to go by late April to mid May. I am in an 85 CJ7, mostly stock and would be up for some day trips this summer.

I'm going to have to hold off on any of this until I figure out the current issue with my truck. Looks like I'm going to need a new clutch. It's starting to sound like I've got pressure plate issues.

Anyone wanting to go hit some trails this weekend let me know :) I'll be going out Saturday and maybe again Sunday. Prefer a place we could maybe shoot guns or do a little fishing.

Hey all. I've had an unscheduled business trip come up that is tying up my free time for the next few weekends. If you all go on a wheeling trip have fun. I'll try and set something up for May.

since a few of us are interested ill post up.

i was thinkin of trying yankee hill near central city/black hawk. ive never done this trail before, it could be a little tricky due to the time of year if there is a lot of snow or not up there. ive done a little homework on trialdamage.com and this is what i have found. http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=48

since it shows the trail is a 2 or 3 out of 10 for difficulty, i think we would be alright even if we ran into some snow up there. not really set on an official route up and thru yankee hill to the other side, it just looks to me like this area would be fun to test out.

yankee hill is a great trail for snow, my club will run it in the winter time for their fix of the white stuff twin peaks might be a good one as well it should just be starting to open up at the top.

Just a heads up, I ended up going up to yankee hill area and there is still a bit of snow in spots. I didn't have any trouble with 33's but it was rutted and the snow was slushy. There were a few big puddles in spots but nothing bad. It rained and snowed up there today but just light flurries. I drove around for a bit but I've never been up there. I think I found yankee hill but was going down instead of up it. I ended up turning around maybe half way down because it was slick and I was by myself. I would of taken pics but I got all the way up there and the batteries were dead on my camera. All in all I had fun and want to go back up and explore some more. Next time I'm bringing extra batteries.
