My buddy went down about a month ago and is deciding to get rid of his bike. It's an 07 600RR with about 5k miles on it. It looks like most of the damage is cosmetic. I think the only things needed to be done to make it rideable again are replacing the rearsets and fixing whatever is wrong with the clutch lever. Someone actually rode it after the accident to a garage to keep it until we could come and pick it up, so it's rideable, but not really safe.

He'd sell it to me for $2300 since he just wants to get rid of it. There are a few things I'm thinking I could do. Buy it and make it into a track or stunt bike, buy it and sell it to my buddy later whenever I get back to CO, or just leave it alone. Just kind of curious how much work you all think would need to go in it.

Here are some pics of the bike:

That's a steal for 2300.

Replacing rear-sets is just as initial to do as replacing a stator cover for a canyon craver. Cosmetics is not an issue either, stunt or track intend. Fairing sets on ebay go for less than 300 on ebay.

Buy it at a smoking deal, keep it in the family. Give him first rights to buy it once he comes to his sense and you are ready to sell.

If you change your mind I might take it off his hands for you. ;)

I kind of figured it's a good deal, just needed some other people to say it I guess.

He isn't riding anymore that's for sure. He got hurt and got in a little trouble with the army but it's all good now. He just wants it off his hands.

Was he not registered as a rider, missing certs/endorsement, or wearing the "proper" PPE?

I may even have some of that shit in tough boxes. I have the rearsets, mirrors, screen, bar ends, turn signals, that exhaust cover, the silver tail pieces, maybe more if you can wait until I redeploy.

I'm broke but I'll find the money if you don't want it. ;)

Didn't have his endorsement, didn't have the MSF course (I have both), we were both unknowingly outside the pass radius from post, the bikes weren't inspected on post which is also something we didn't know was required for riding off post, but he was wearing all his PPE. He owned up to everything and admitted he was stupid and the company commander just made him write a 1,500 word essay on the importance of the MSF course or something. I think it helped there were something like 5 DUI's within that couple weeks that the CO was more concerned with.

But if I do end up buying it from it, I would be interested in some of those parts. When do you redeploy?

Take it, fix it, track it! That's a SMOKING deal, as long as everything is straight. The case covers can be replaced with hardened Woodcrafts, Yana Shiki, or NRC's. The fairings can be stripped and sold, which will recoup what you spend on race fairings. Rearsets can be replaced with Woodcrafts or Gilles.

DO EEEEETTTT!!!!! DOOOO EEEEEETTTTT!!!!

Who buys the *blue* one? Seeing the damage on both sides, I just wonder if all the important stuff is still straight.??

He was doing probably 30-40 in a left hand turn when a car crossed the centerline a bit. He overcorrected and stood the bike up while he was braking and hit the guardrail with the right side of the bike. He was launched over the guardrail and the bike fell on its left side (it is incredible he only broke some bones in his hands, trees were everywhere). Forks seem straight and I don't think there was enough force involved to mess up the frame or anything so I'm hoping there's no big issues.

Seeing as the bike went upside down at some point and hit hard enough to catch a load of grass between the tire and rim I'd be VERY wary of making sure everything is straight.

I'll be back in June. The parts are yours, just pay for shipping.

Well I haven't paid my buddy yet, doing so this weekend, but I can pretty much say I now have 2 bikes, which for some reason feels really cool. Figured if times get tight or I don't end up doing anything with it I can just sell it again and break even.
