So somebody fucked with my bike sunday morning. Apparently the cops impounded it for being a hazard, I'm guessing some kids vandalized it and left it on its side leaking fluids. Haven't seen it yet, but luckily I went with the comprehensive coverage this time. I will post some pictures when I go look at it.

In the event insurance decides to fix it, where should I take it?

TFOG would be my suggestion or buy the plastics online and I can help you put them back on in my garage. You're also welcome to store the bike at my place until you can get replacement parts for what's messed up. More than likely the insurance company will just write you a check and you can either do the work yourself or take it to a shop. Let me know what you need :-)

I'd put a camera on it and have my shotgun pointed at it with a motion alarm. AKA hunting.

lol no shit. It was parked in a lot right across from my buddies house that doesn't get busy until summer so I thought I was in the clear. I ordered plastics already, hopefully the bike isn't totaled, otherwise I will have to sell them when they come in.

I would recommend TFOG as well.... If you need a place to store the bike, you can bring it to my place as well. But I am out towards DIA.

See what it costs to buy it back and track that sucker out. Or at least sell it for parts depending the price.

Was it parked on the street? My guess is someone backed into it trying to parallel park.

Tue Apr 26th, 2011, 02:58 PM
He said it was in a parking lot, but that car thing does sound possible. That would explain the damage on both sides. Sorry about your luck Nobody :(

Wasn't on the street, it was in a lot that gets barely any use across from a friends house.

make sure you send them a copy of that receipt for the new plastics and have them add it to the bottom line.

Ok got the quote this morning, looks like I'm getting a little more than I paid minus the deductible. After I sell the fairings, I'll have what I paid for it.

in all honesty, it doesn't look that bad considering you ordered the fairings for it already...what will it cost to buy back, $300?

hey, be sure to look up you exact motorcycle and see how much its going for through dealerships and private sellers. by exact i mean same year and as close to the mileage you have as possible.... it must the same year though... my bike is an 06 , but the 05 model is the exact same bike... but i couldnt look for 05 models.

Insurance 101 is to "total" a vehicle you take the average price you get from auction, + repair costs to get a price.. if that price is more than what it costs to replace the vehicle it becomes "totaled" and they give you a check for the amount it costs to replace the vehicle.

when my bike was "totaled" they tried giving me 4500 $ for my bike that i couldn't replace for less than $6500. and they were charging me $2000 to buy it back..... so they were only going to give me a check for $2500...

i gave them a list of motorcycle in my area that ranged from $6000 to $7500 and after a lot of arguing they gave me $6500 for the bike... i purchased it back and they cut me a check for $4500....

The best part is they messed up and didnt total my motorcycle out... so according to the DMV (the only place that matters) my motorcycle is still a clear title. :)

hope this helps bud.

Good point, you can always haggle the price of a total loss - don't take the first offer.

If you do this, and they total the bike and take it, you'll have to give them the plastics as well.

Bummer about the bike though. Got a soft spot for old F2's.

True...
If they ask for them...

The wrecker operator who dragged away my EX didn't ask for the extra parts. I had made it clear to the ins. co. that they weren't installed.

Insurance companies aren't in the business of reselling vehicles, let alone parts.

Yeah they are giving me replacement value, less the deductible. Now just need to sell the fairings.
