I downloaded all of my photos from yesterday, and I'm starting my initial sort of the 1,600 images from my first time shooting the races. I have to admit, just watching you guys made me itch for my Daytona675 - but I still think it's best I keep my a$$ on the sidelines. :P Anyway, the tracking technique was hard to learn, but I got some good keepers from the day. Here's a sample...

I'll post a final gallery later in the week once I've had a chance to get through all these pics. It'll prolly take me the rest of the day and most of my free nights this week. Such is the glamorous life of a race photographer. :P

Special thanks to Rybo and Jason (jbnwc) for their advice and support!

There were definitely a lot of photographers out on Saturday. Saw quite a few old familiar faces and a few new ones. It'll take a few days to upload mine too.

Honestly.... the feeling is more than mutual!! My face and arms are TOASTED from sunburn. Cripes. Really, I can't even imagine what it's like out there under LEATHERS!

Cheers to you and all the other racers for having that kind of endurance - and putting on a terrific show!

The leathers are not bad, once you are moving it is quite comfortable but getting stuck in pregrid for a crash delay can be the suck.

The photogs at least have an interesting way to pass the time, but the cornerworkers are my #1 hero's. That can be a tough job. I corner work Chicane days and that can be tuff but the MRA workers are unbelievable! They were out Sat. from 7:45am until 6:30pm with the crash delay.

I do like the pictures too, so hopefully you guys will keep coming out

Were you the photographer that came down to turn 11 at one point today?

I was in 11 for a session yesterday. Was there someone out there today? I never saw anyone else while I was on track. I figured Jim would be out there but I didn't see him all day. Maybe he was in camo. :ninja:

Kind of surprised to see some guys with video equipment and boom cameras out. I guess MRA's going big time.

Thanks for the compliments Asp, Goose, and Cpt! It's very much appreciated, especially from you guys with track photography experience.

NOTE TO ALL: This was my FIRST time shooting fast-action/track photos. Although I hate to qualify my photos, I must admit that while I tried to be picky with my final selections, there are still a few in the final sort that don't meet my satisfaction with respect to tack-sharp focus. That tracking technique is a b*tch, and definitely takes time, practice, and talent to get consistent results... but I'm learning.

Anyway - my point is this - I will share 100% crop sections with prospective buyers beforehand so you can see if the sharpness meets your own criteria. That way you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to make the purchase.

Actually some the the blured images can turn out to be really cool.

Actually I am trying to perfect my technique of tack-sharp focus on the rider, and blurred background. Some photogs shooting at high shutter speeds leaves the image rather static, with no sense of motion IMO. So yeah, selective blurring is my current challenge.

Sorry for the lack of organization. Lesson learned - I'll divide it out by race class next time 'round!

Still plugging away at the doc. We have a great concept and plan to have it done by mid summer next year. We have been in contact with Jim, showed the concept to MRA board and they have been very helpful. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the others races. Here is a link to some more stills from the first HPR race. TJ said you guys could download at will. Take care all.
