Well the other day a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L Limited loaded came home with me. The idea is to checkout the back country easier with the wife and dog and now I can use my Metal Detector and checkout some of these old buildings in various areas.

I took the car out today with the dog up Mt Herman, and did FR315, FR314 and FR322. Probably will go out tomorrow too.

Just wondering how many here have Jeeps and use them???

I've got an 06 unlimited and try to go when ever I can. There was someone trying to set a drive up but it fell through. I was actually planning on heading up behind Central City tomorrow to do some more exploring. Where were you planning on going?

Out by La Salle Pass/Wilkerson Pass...there is a very old wooden building...figured that be good metal detecting. Not sure with the weather though.

Nothing too hardcore right now, I need to get some rock sliders and that probably will not happen till Christmas as I spent enough this last week buying Sidi Charger Boots and a Offroad helmet...not to mention I have RMAR event and got to pay for the Cabin rental come August....oh and we are going back to MI in June so yeah I'm tapped out right now so no Jeep parts...If I am lucky i'll get some rubberized floor mats for the Jeep.

i had the jeep thing for a few months, the burning went away when i stuffed myself in this toy taco

funny story too i wanted a jeep till this one day i was under my my friends YJ doin some skid plates and noticed the frame snapped into 4 pieces (rust) we looked at the tacoma option and have never looked back!

but in all honesty id wheel with anything as long as it doesn't clog up the trials

Working on it. Have been rebuilding her into a servicable rig, hoped to have her ready by this summer. Too much work travel lately, slowing down the rebuild. BUT she makes it back and forth to the parts store, much better than the condition she was in when I purchased her.

Okay I owe a better picture now. My best friend in Denver came down as he wanted to check it out. So we hit up Hotel Gulch (must have missed you 'dragos13'), then over to Trail Creek Rd, then some random roads out int he 717 area, then hit a road that turned into ATV trail that dumped me on 717...I should of really got a picture of that...LOL I was like, huh I think the road ended back there and this is only ATV wide...and vam popped out on 717 (I debated whether to try 717, but I did not want to wreck the trail and know it well enough to know that a Jeep will not fit).

I am attempting to replace the differential bushings today. Made the dealer give them to me FREE seeing as they failed to notice. They said giving me the parts was a fair thing to do. I know I bought USED, so they did not have to do anything. This was Perkins down in Motor City area of Springs.

No they haven't been built since 98-99. and they started bulding them in in 89 so a good 10 year run. You can easily get on for a grand or less

i might have to start looking around for a semi built 1. then turn it into a trail rig. parts have got to be cheaper than jeep. seems like if i want to add air in the jeep tires its gonna cost me some bone marrow or something! but they sure are fun!

Yep took the bros truck to Mt Massive last year when my Canadian friends were visiting on a cross country motorcycle trip.

Its to each their own I know. I grew up with the idea you buy a pickup truck your a working man and need it to haul stuff around, you buy an SUV (well when they originally came out) you got 4x4 option because well why you buying it otherwise!!! It was how I was brought up. Those vehicles handled certain task and you bought them for their use. i like knowing I can hop curbs, been there done that a lot in MI when I had the Explorer to get from one lot to the other lot in shopping centers....I would not be doing that in a SRT8...and no doubt they are nice vehicle.

My wife is not like that, If I really wanted an M5 she be like okay it can still haul groceries and children just fine. I guess I have a cool wife, she agrees we will never need a minivan...why would we drive others peoples kids around that could not fit into a SUV or Crossover vehicle, or for that matter a car. Let those parents drive their own children around.

It wouldn't be half bad if it were painted to match...natural CF is more of a "Hey look at me!"

Otherwise, badass ride, I see it as performance and utility in one. Perfect combo.

Agreed on all accounts. I don't care for CF except on a race car. But I really would want the ability to drag an open trailer around for various errands.

^^^ no offense that I will never understand...SUV but turned into a car...I see no point. To each their own.

It's extremely versatile, covering a number of different objectives in a single vehicle. And when that badass in his Corvette needs to get his ass beat, well I've got a Jeep that will happily oblige. It's great in the snow, turns 12s through the 1/4mi, carries groceries and anything else an average SUV can, the stereo kicks ass for a stock setup, and it's extremely comfortable even on long drives.

All he did was put a ghey cleared-CF hood on it. Those SRT-8's are badass. :)

It's lowered 1.8" in the back, 1.3 in the front (Levels the stock rake), has stiffer sway bar end links, custom ram air, tune, Corsa exhaust, LEDs inside and out, and a few other minor things. As for the hood, I originally got it with the idea of painting it silver, but I kinda liked the CF so I've stuck with it for now. Recently though I've been considering going back to the stock hood.

I build custom turbo kits and headers in my off time, and I think I'm going to build a twin turbo kit for it in the coming year or 2.

What is your towing capicity?

I think 5,000....? I don't know or care, I've got nothing to tow. They make a couple aftermarket hitches for it, and it'll tow as much as a normal Grand Cherokee. But mine, with the drop springs and lack of a hitch, is not setup for that.
