No side stands, no blinkers, no mirrors, I believe no lic. plate, bodywork needs to be cabable of catching and holding 3qt. of fluid in case of catastophic failure. I do not think you will have to tape plastic light covers as long as they are diabled or disconnected. The bike will need to be saftey wired and any vulnerable wet case covers need to be replaced with reinforced ones. You will want front and rear stands to facilitate the use of tire warmers and to remove and replace wheels for tire changes, which will be much more frequent than street tires. For tech inspection you must remove your lowers and with street body work this can be a PIA. You probably wont need to do this to get your license but you wont race without it. And any gray areas related to tech will need to be approved by Bartman. Good luck and my suggestion would be to just get a race body and save yourself alot of grief and $ if you crash it which is more likely than not if you push it at all. Welcome to racing.........oh we haven't even started with suspension

Okay...
Since it is my abolute and sincere intent to aquire another RSV-R over the coming winter so I can aquire my license and race next season --- what exactly IS "saftey wiring" ??? I've always wanted to know what that meant.

Its putting a piece of wire though things that can unscrew and cuase harm. This way they either cant come unscrewed or if the do they wont fly off and strike another bike/rider or create a hazard on the track suraface.

Caliper bolts, oil drain, radiator cap, ect.

Well... "saftey wiring" is a typo :D
Safety wiring is the process of driving oneself crazy while breaking a dozen or so 1/16th inch drill bits putting holes in various fasteners of one's motorcycle. then running wire through said holes in a manner such that the fasteners do not depart from the motorcycle causing any variety of mayhem from an oil slick to losing one's axle, which just wouldn't be pretty.
Hope that helps Vance :D

I guess I'm just an umechanical knob. I'll have to come to the races one day and someone can show me what this exactly entials because right now in my frame of mind I cannot mentally image what exactly this means other than something like a pin-based quick release. :?

That site is full of crap. Not once does it show the wire stuck in your finger about a 1/4 of an inch and the amount of blood you get on your bike after doing so.

Um yeah... I DEFINATELY am NOT doing that to my baby.

Yep yep... I am dead set now - saving up my nickles and dimes to find me a used RSV-R come January/February to make into a track bike is absolutely the way to go!!!

Well... if a used '01 or something RSVR is unobtainable... maybe. But I'd prefer to qulify for/stick to the novice twin class, at least until I've got a season under my belt, as my primary race of choice... and ideally in that same vein... I'd prefer to race what I ride.

There is no novice "twin" class. There is novice GTU (600's inline 4's, 750 twins and under), and novice GTO (1000cc and under). The only twin classes are expert classes... Stick with an SV or 600, you can do more races, and you will learn more about going fast then you will with a 1000.

its not unobtainable but I would be willing to bet if you wreck it or need a part on a race weekend you would be hard pressed to find anything for it , plus parts cant be cheap for them things . Damn nice bikes though

I binned my R6 pretty well at Pueblo last round... and I had the bike back together by the end of the evening on Saturday. Thanks to a lot of cool folks in the MRA (Greg Greenwood, Doug Crook, Dan Audette, Joe Blazon, Todd Towles, Bob, Dean, etc).

And the fact that there were enough people there racing R6's that I was able to "borrow" all the parts I needed.

Twins is considered semi-amateur, in that you can ride it as a novice with Mark Schellinger's approval (and possibly that of other board members, or at least with their influence). This will not happen on your first race, you need to let people watch you for a few so we know you can play nice. ;)

For you Vance (or anyone else at this point): $1500
