Man... I wish I had a dollar for every time that someone on here pushed their opinion about drinking and riding.

Is stating an opinion the same as pushing it?

I wish I had a buck for every time someone here said they were going to go drink and ride. Betcha I'd be richer, faster...

I'm sure I already have a rep as one of those "holier than thou assholes" so I'm not going to turn this into an epic flame thread...
But I do think we who choose not to imbibe and drive, bite our tongues more than you who do not.

But I do think we who choose not to imbibe and drive, bite our tongues more than you who do not.

So I arrived, poured a pint of Belhaven Scottish Ale at 5.6% ABV, enjoyed it over the course of an hour, had a burger, hung out for another 2 hours or so, then rode home.

Just exactly how "reckless" was I?

Let me rephrase Captn... Man... I wish I had a dollar for every time that someone on here stated their opinion about drinking and riding.

Why is it such a big deal around here what others do, especially if its not breaking any laws? It ruins threads! Why? Because someone that does think that they are "holier than thou" feels the need to pipe in with their stupid 2 cents.

You really feel the need to bite your tongue when you see a thread wondering if anyone wants to go grab a beer? How bout this: Dont. You give it to em, really let them know how you feel about them sitting on a sunny patio, having a few beers a couple laughs and a relaxing time.

Type away yall... But if your bike isnt in any of the pictures you might want to shut your trap, you were not there and you dont know sheeeot....

I could care less what you do...true, I wasn't there...I was probably out riding, or something else besides talking about riding...but I do not really care to shut my trap, but I must know "sheeeot"...because with my awesome powers of deduction by seeing pictures of bikes and people drinking, I concluded people were drinking then riding...which then caused someone to get their panties in a bunch

and I'm not holier than thou...just smarter....Darwin will get his ;)

like i said its nobody's place to tell anyone how to run their life you know it and they know it. The beauty of america is freedom of speech you can voice what you want but it doesn't mean it has to be heard. If everyone abide'd by what anyone said cause they think they know what there talking about we might as well live like the people in Iraq when Saddam was their leader. Boys will be Boys and men will be men the ones who can make the decision for themselves and know its the right one are men. The ones who cannot or think they know whats best for others are boys. True.

True. But some of these fools on the road are obviously operating with impaired/non-existent driving abilities even before they crack a beer.

And also true but since even the smartest people do at least one stupid thing in their lives so, where do you draw the line?

(And, yes, they'd have to lock my stupid ass up)

I didn't post originally to try and convince anybody to not do the dumb crap they're obviously gonna do anyways.

I just wanted to point out that there are way more "hey let's go drink and ride" threads on here than comments against. And that us "holy puritans" are better at staying out of them than we were given credit for.

Some people are fucking unbelievable. Really? Mom, may I please? In reality, and you know it, most alcohol related motorcycle fatalities are single vehicle accidents and would constitute natural selection. Who am I to prevent nature from taking its course? You certainly aren't. You are not the messiah, God, Allah, or my parents. Stop pontificating and keep it to yourself. Unfortunately, cager DUI's if resulting in fatalities, generally end up with the individual drinking surviving while those he hit are now victims. Troll...

I'm assuming that's directed at me since I seem to be the only one in here with a contrary opinion.

First of all, if you were to go re-read my posts, you would see that I did no such thing as tell anybody what to do. I simply pointed out the truth that you folks talk about getting drinks and riding more than anybody tries to dissuade you. You however seem to have no problem trying to tell others what to do.

While I wish for my example to save a few lives. I don't hold out any hope of such.

And if you wanna quote statistics you should mention that in half of those single motorcycle fatalities involving alcohol, the rider's BAC was below the legal limit. So yes, they killed themselves quite legally. I'm sure that was a huge condolence to their families.

Do what you want. Get drunk, light your stupid ass on fire and drive off a cliff for all I care. But don't accuse me of trying to nanny you. If you don't like my opinions(and, yes, that's all they are), you don't have to read/listen to them.

Gawrsh! Yew shore showded mee!!!!

And here I thought you would convince me I'm way off base with an intelligent argument pointing out my flawed analysis of the facts and statistics. But gee, sarcasm sounds so much smarter!

If I'm such a whacked-out crackpot (or teapot), why do you keep coming back to debate this? Why not just ignore me?

If you aren't averse to a vigorous debate, I'm not an unreasonable person. If anybody can present an intelligent argument, any rational, rationale, if you will, that convinces me to change my mind, I will, without animosity.

Forewarning: I don't buy the legality argument. Just because something is or isn't illegal, doesn't make it the right thing to do. Slavery, segregation and texting while driving were once all legal. Prohibition was another example of the law ignoring what is right. Most the time, eventually, we make our laws to match the popular view of right and wrong. But, this process is slow and depends upon the society at large being able to agree on what is right.

I know it's easy to live your life according to what's right when your view of that matches the popular view. But I believe true moral fiber is displayed by doing what you believe to be right, even when it isn't the popular course of action.

As far as last night...
I had a couple beers. while playing the new Mortal Kombat with my wife and kids after eating an incredible rack of baby back ribs. All together, including the game, it cost me less than a hundski to give my family of four a great dinner, a great time and we get to have that kind of fun many more times. Best part the only fatalities were digital, and pulled off by me, pwning my 17 year old who found out just how bad ass Kung Lao is. :D

Ezzzzy1
Thu Jun 9th, 2011, 09:40 AM
So the example you would like me to see is that you think its ok to drink and show your kids how to kill people (not really because its a video game son) while at the same time you dont want me to or anyone to have dinner and a few beers then ride?

I think you will find more negative literature about graphically violent video games and the effects on children than you would ever find about responsible drinking.

What the hell does two beers do to you? Three? Seriously... Maybe thats why we are off on this topic.

Well, when one teaches their kids that there is a difference between stylized cartoon violence and actual real violence, you don't have that worry. Sure, when they were toddlers, MK was not on my list of approved games for them. Now that they are older and have proven themselves to act responsibly, I can rest more assured that they're probably not going try and re-enact scorpion's spear move. Just as much literature exists to refute the link between violent video games and violent behavior. Just like movies, music and TV.

As far as having a couple beers while I hang with my family... I think that shows more responsibility to them than if I were to tell them I'm jumping in the car/on the bike to go meet friends to have a beer. My example shows you don't have to get drunk to enjoy a finely crafted pilsner, you don't have to leave your house to have fun and hanging out with family doesn't have to mean sitting around bored playing pinochle.

What does two beers do to me? It slows my reaction time and affects my balance. Probably more than others would be, but that's because I'm a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. It's probably not enough to make me an unsafe driver but it may affect my ability to react in time to an unsafe driver or situation.

I'm not claiming to be perfect or even smart, but I do chose my actions based on what I believe the smartest choices to be. I think alot of others in our society just do what they think is "smart enough" or what everybody else is doing.

I would make the point that Darwinian evolution will eventually prove one of us right, but I could be taken out on my way home by a drunk, texting, flip-flop wearing llama.

And, the very definition of responsible drinking is what I take issue with, and the whole point of my contention.

I'm not expecting to change anybody's mind. I just happen to enjoy a vigorous democratic debate (some might say argument). And I happen to be very passionate about this subject. If the idea of publicly discussing societal issues bothers anyone, maybe they should go live in North Korea.

B) They agree with me and their lack of input indicates that they think I'm doing a damn fine job arguing the point.

C) They don't agree but can't find enough holes in my logic to offer a strong counterpoint.

..better yet I'd like to set up a place and time for you two to be face to face sure you can be tough typing on your computer but are you man enough to argue in person?...

Uh...OK....?!
These are just opinions and, yes, I'd argue them in person.
The invites to fight over this? Really? That's what the playground bullies did in elementary school did when they got pissed off cause they couldn't fucking subtract double digit numbers.

Do you guys really want me at bike night that bad? And here I thought you guys didn't like me. ;)
If Easy-E or anybody else finds it so offensive that I choose not to operate a vehicle after drinking, that they feel it necessary to take it to a physical level, I think that speaks volumes about their character, and I'd re-examine whether or not I wanted to be friends with them. It's ok though. because I know how to defend myself physically even better than I can verbally. I'll probably just dick slap them with my giant cock so hard it breaks their neck.

I had a beer last night at bike night. Ruh roh!

I had 2. I must be an alcoholic.

I hope they weren't Budweiser. Life's too short to drink crappy beer. I had a Bass ale last night. I forgot I even liked Bass ale.

Side note: I bet alcoholics are actually safer on the road after only one or two beers than I would be. They've gotten a tolerance built up and would probably feel more normal than when sober.

PS
Yes my Job is boring and I really have very little to do this week.

No kidding?

I moved out here from Florida 2 years ago thinking everyone is going to be out riding all the time, enjoying the beautiful roads an scenery.
There is more drama and less riding here then I had ever seen in Florida?
Sometimes I wonder if I I logged in to the "Day's of our lives" forum instread of a motorcycle forum?

So you guys are saying that is it not cool to have a few beers take your $9000 MC's for a ride on a nice, paved, smooth road, in a relatively safe manner?

What if you were to Man The Fuck Up and have a few beers and ride on some gnarly rut ridden, banked, tree lined trails on a bike taller than your 15 year old kids in a slightly uncontrolled manner at a speed that you cannot see because if you look down you WILL crash? Then you will have another beer and laugh about it?

Mmmm, sounds like I have plans for this weekend :)

BTW: Anyone selling a WR250R? One with a rack for holding a 12 pack? I need one badly.

There is no danger in having a few beers if you are properly armed.

I had chaffing from my 320 mile ride on Wednesday. I'm not used to that shit. Winter has made me soft, and not just in the stomach area. :(

Don't forget to equip your bike with the appropriate party mods. Cops LOVE seeing a bike ready for devious and illegal behaviour.

I always carry a tie down strap on the bike. Thus far, it's only served one purpose. And it's served that purpose MANY times.
