I'm not certain this is the right forum to ask in but - my girl's Honda Metro scooter (Little 49cc) was stolen from Boulder on June 7th. Lakewook PD found it and towed it on the 9th (was in a theft-ring hotel room) to an impound lot and finally called us today (22nd) to notify us it'd been found. They want 500 bucks to get it out of impound. Is there anything I can do to cut down on this? Any leo's know anything that can help me? $500 to get her scooter out of impound seems a bit like extortion to me, especially since they notified us 13 days after it'd been found =/

You can Argue that the paper work was not processed in due time for a proper pick up, but to be honest you really get stuck with impound fee. I thought they had to process the paper to notify owner within 48 hours unless it was under a hold for evidence which normally they do not charge you till it was cleared for pick up. IF the notification dose not match the clear date you can argue against them but its still an up hill battle

IN 06 the honda metro i owned was stolen and found a week later but could not pick it up for 5 days after i was notified they found it. They were holding it in a on going investigation.

That's like half the price of the scooter... are they retards? Is it from a police impound or private?

Of course they used a private towing service and impound lot. Not that I have much faith in our legal system, but to be the victim of theft and then be the victim of the impound asshats/slow police-work is a big let-down.

What was their rate for a small ass scooter?

25 per day + towing. I really don't mind paying for the tow, but 25 a day and them taking 13 days to notify really chaps my hide.

Break in at night and steal it. I hate so much about the law enforcement because when they blatantly screw up they take no responsibility for the financial damages it causes people. Never once have I seen the police take a hit for their own faults.

When my busa was stolen a few years back, same thing happened to me, they didn't notify me until much later and it came out to around 500 bucks. I wonder if they make this a habit?

My insurance reimbursed me of the charges though in the end.

That is bullshit. When I lived in AZ the cops just said come down and pick up your stolen shit. No charges or anything.

I would tell them to fuck off and you aren't paying a dime.

Go to the next police auction and buy it back for $200.

eh, they gave it to a private towing lot to hold, Ace Towing on Tejon. We showed up today to pick it up and it was $465. Since it's a private lot im not mad @ the impound people - but i'm pretty pissed that they used the second VIN to identify the scooter....13 days after the first agent looked at it. So we get stuck paying the their shitty police work -_-

Edit: The fuckheads that stole it did a fair bit of damage, removed the ignition, pryed off the gas cap and bent the tank, damged the plastics a bit. The retards even put a sticker with the gf's name of the guy that stole it and handdrawn skull/crossbones on the side.

Sorry to hear about this.

Pics of the damage? I must admit I laughed at the "skull/crossbones" description. What a bunch of :loser:'s!

I'll post up pics in a bit. Anyone know a good/trustworthy shop to take it to?
